It’s not very often nowadays to find a one-owner, 54-year-old pickup for sale, and certainly not one this nice. Unfortunately, the seller can no longer drive, so their cherished pickup is now listed for sale here on Craigslist, and thanks to Barn Finds reader Barney, we can show it to you. The sweet Midnight Black truck is located in Great Falls, Montana, and the asking price is $45,000.
In 1971, Chevrolet introduced the Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super models as a way of dressing up their C10 pickup line. The increased trim and two-tone paint certainly made it obvious that buyers had purchased the “upscale” model, as you can see above. It’s certainly not a luxurious interior by modern standards, but simply having full carpeting was a major step for what had been a purely utilitarian mode of transport. 1972 was the last year this body style was offered; the “square body” trucks replaced it for 1973. I remember my father looking at a new 1972 K5 Blazer and thinking the clean lines were really nice. I was disappointed when he decided not to pull the trigger.
We’re not told if this is the original Midnight Black paint, but the truck has been garaged most of its life, so it may well be original. I looked up replacement emblems just out of curiosity, and just the “SUPER” emblem at the bottom retails for almost $80 per pair. Personally, I’d leave the faded originals alone; they add character.
The option list for this truck was extensive; I wonder if it was a special order originally, or just the glamour truck to park at the front and bring customers in? I haven’t noticed many C10s with the tool & storage box option; you can see it in the first picture on the passenger side of the truck behind the door. I wish there were more pictures available, especially of the 400-cubic-inch V-8 engine and the underbody. Perhaps the “small leaks” mentioned have kept the truck oily and rust-free underneath? No, Jamie, that only works with British cars.
The new owner will have decisions to make; for example, do you restore the “chrome” plating on this dash or leave it as-is and original? I know what I’d do; let us know your thoughts in the comment section. The 112,245 miles works out to only 2,079 miles per year!
The seller tells us that the truck has been “rigged for a tonneau cover”; presumably that’s what the fasteners around the top of the bed are for. I wonder if the cover comes with the truck? What do you think of this highly original find? Can you imagine this Cheyenne Super in your garage?

As well you should be because they are worth a king’s ransom these days. I had the same one – ’72 even, back in the ’90s and definitely have regrets…cool truck.

before I left Eureka,& tried to contact the owner,but they
never seemed to be at home.It was also a 4WD.

Nice truck woth positraction. This will have the coil spring rear suspension with the long trailing/traction bar control arms. Great ride, good handling. My ’72 (327 3 speed which I changed to a Saginaw 4 speed) was a great truck. Installed all new coil springs with the rears as Moog Cargo coils. My truck which I brought to Nevada from Illinois had some tin worm issues. But the tin worms died in the Northern Nevada dry air. I sold the truck to buy an FJ40 43 years ago and still have the FJ40.

Thanks, Wayne, for mentioning the rear coil suspension. Not only does it improve the ride but eliminates the wheel hop associated with leaf springs.

great looking truck and appears to be nice and original. not a fan of the BB would prefer a sb. to each their own. at 45k i could never afford this anyway. these trucks are out of the everyday persons reach. never should have sold the 72 i had.
