Package Deal: Pair of 1970s Alfa Romeo Spiders

In Alfa Romeo circles, the Spider Veloce is one of the brand’s most coveted models. It was produced across four generations (or series) from 1966 to 1994. The seller has a pair of nearly identical twins from 1977 and 1979 that were kept in an airport hangar for years until the owner passed away. Located east of Bakersfield, California, this pair of projects is being sold for parts, but only as a pair, for $4,000 here on craigslist. This combo sports car tip comes to us via Tony Primo.

The Spider was a classic sports car roadster with seating for two and a front-engine/rear-wheel-drive arrangement. It replaced the Giulia Spider and enjoyed a run of nearly 30 years. These cars were designed by the famed Pininfarina and built in Italy with a variety of engines over the years, which ranged from 1.3 to 2.0-liter twin-camshaft inline-4s. Naturally, a 5-speed manual transmission was the logical companion.

We’re told these twins have been stored for about a decade but were running at some point in the meantime. Both may have been treated to new red paint. They may or may not be complete, with corresponding parts occupying the trunks. Since the titles are MIA, the seller is marketing them together for parts. But they look awfully nice to be disemboweled.

The seller says the 1979 has 81,000 miles and has no convertible top or mechanism. The passenger seat has gone bye-bye. And it needs other interior pieces plus brakes, yet the exhaust is new. On the other hand, the 1977 has 79,000 miles and needs a top (but may have the hardware). It was tuned up at the same point but also needs brakes. A new windshield tags along, as the ’77 needs one. Maybe you could make one good car out of two.
