The Colonnade offerings from General Motors were all a huge success for the company during the seventies, and their timing couldn’t have been much better, since many buyers were focusing more on intermediate-sized cars rather than the larger autos from just a few years earlier. One of these A-Bodies that continued to climb throughout the decade in popularity was the Oldsmobile Cutlass, which was the brand’s top seller in 1975, and then went on to become the number one seller for all of GM in 1976 and 1977. With the amount of these cars produced, surprisingly, I haven’t spotted very many recently in my neck of the woods, and I’m seeing some potential here without breaking the bank. This 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass S is in Calhan, Colorado, and can be spotted here on Craigslist. While it could stand some attention, this one seems reasonably priced at $4.500. Mike F., thanks for your tip here!
The seller describes his Cutlass S coupe as super solid and very original, with the paint stated to still be the factory-applied original coating. That’s easy to believe, as there’s quite a bit of fading, with the owner saying that this one’s been inoperative and parked for years, but he also lists the rust amount at zero. Hopefully, that means it’s only some surface corrosion visible on the driver’s fender, and if that’s the worst exterior area to contend with, it may not take too much effort to get this one looking good again outside. The future owner will have to decide whether to stick with the blue color or perhaps choose something different.
For 1975, the top engine in the Cutlass was a 455, which made an advertised 190 horsepower. Under the hood here is the 350, but it was only rated 20 ponies less than the larger offering, and the seller says that this one’s running and the car is driving. How well it’s presently doing either isn’t specified, but if the 53,652 miles listed are actual, maybe you can get by for a while with just a tune-up before an entire overhaul will be needed.
This one’s kind of basic on the inside, with a vinyl bench seat in blue to match the outside. Most of the main interior components could use some love, repair, detailing, or at minimum, a thorough cleaning. However, for $4,500, the initial investment isn’t all that much, and this Olds does seem like it’s at a decent starting point overall. Another plus is the underside, which appears well-preserved, at least in the one photo provided. How would you envision moving forward with this 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass S?

What did “s” stand for ?
Some people say “Sport”, but I’ve never been able to confirm this in the past. Do any readers have a definitive answer here?
The “S” is a trim level. 75 was the last year for the base model, and the S was then the next level of trim. Kinda Spartan in the interior as opposed to the Supreme or Brougham.
lot of money for a cutlass needing a lot of attention imo.
I think the S stood for Salon
That was a separate trim level, and in coupe form it shared the opera window/formal notch roofline with the Cutlass Supreme. Only the base and S coupes among Cutlasses had the “pure” Colonnade roof seen here. I’ve long suspected that they were intended to use a different grille too (as the S did in later years) since the JoHan promo model has a lower-profile one that fits the ’73-4 nose piece.
No the Salon was a separate top model. The S was the “bottom” cheapy model
This same car was on here on 6/22. At that time it was a no sale on EBay for $3500.
The seller has now knocked the price down to $3800.
As clean as this body is,I think it’s a great deal, Could probably whittle that figure down a little more.
