Whenever a Quattroporte comes up for sale, it’s usually an example that’s been ignored for years, or at least fallen into the care of owners lacking the means to maintain it properly. This 1984 model falls somewhere in the middle, as the description indicates it’s remained in long-term ownership but has not been used extensively over the last decade. When it comes to vintage Maseratis, extremes in either direction – too much use or too little – tends to create headaches. Find this 1984 Maserati Quattroporte here on eBay with an opening bid of $11K and no reserve.
The Maserati certainly presents well, with no obvious cosmetic flaws and rear headrests in mint condition, an important feature given their propensity for sun exposure and splitting. The U.S. safety bumpers are ugly but in good shape, and aside from a power antenna that no longer fully retracts, there’s not much to criticize on the exterior. All factory badges remain in place and the tires appear to retain decent tread depth.
Inside, where Maserati tended to go to extremes in both leather and wood-trim coverage, the condition of the materials looks OK. Not great – the driver’s seat looks a bit tired – but not destroyed, either. The dashboard appears un-cracked but the carpets look dingy (although, it could just be the lighting). Keeping the interior in good shape is essential for protecting the investment in such a needy car, and this Quattroporte looks like it may need some cosmetic love inside.
When operating a behemoth like this, however, your number one priority is mechanical health. The big four-cam V8 powerplant could deliver impressive performance, but it still had to lug a car weighing over 4,000 lbs. down the road. With mileage reported to be just over 82,000, this Quattroporte has been used – and that’s a good thing. Instead of pasting a description of the car from Wikipedia, however, the seller would be well advised to share with potential buyers an excruciatingly detailed break-down of its maintenance history, which is a must-have for anyone seriously considering a car like this.

Has the comment option to upload a picture been removed from BF?
Good question Sam as I tried to upload a photo and the link for this is gone. Can anyone on Barn Finds explain this to us? I hope you did not remove this fun feature for us all….
I remember these having terrible reliability issues. As noted, pay close attention to the repair history.
Had one, 1982. Land yacht indeed. Comes alive over 80mph, otherwise a barge. Speedo needle curls, lots of animal skins. Jag irs rear end with inboard brakes if I remember correctly.
Put a trailer hitch on it to tow an ATM machine behind. Don’t forget to give your mechanic your debit card and PIN number.
Uh oh, beautiful cars! Wrong way wants this car! 11g’s? I will have to check some things out before I hit that buy now butt tho. I don’t know much about these technically, but I know what I like and usually buy what I want!
Looks good
