The 1970s Dodge Demon (later renamed Dart Sport) was the equivalent of the Plymouth Duster. It was a fastback that offered a 340 cubic inch V8 in the muscle car category in 1971-73 (replaced by the 360 after that). This one has been rebuilt and modified with the latter engine and a host of modern goodies, performance and otherwise. Located in Macon, Georgia, this nifty Mopar looks to be wearing Plum Crazy paint (the factory color was black per the cowl tag) and is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $25,000. Dodge’s Demon sounded more mischievous than Plymouth’s Duster. That, and the reference to the really hot place down below ground, supposedly fired up the Clergy who gave Chrysler a hard time about the name. So, in 1973, the car became the Dart Sport, which was a less controversial (and distinctive) alternative. In 1972, the muscle version of the car was still the Demon 340, but that engine is gone in favor of a later 360 that has been treated to a lot of goodies. The compression ratio is back to 10:1, and a steel crank and rebuilt heads are part of the package.
Besides the hotter engine, the automatic transmission has been rebuilt, the cooling system beefed up, Sure-Grip added, disc brakes applied to all four wheels, and some suspension tweaks. In all respects, this Mopar might be better today than it was in 1972. All sorts of gauges have been added, but the factory speedometer is inoperable.
Some snappy bucket seats have been added (that don’t match the back seat, but that doesn’t seem to matter). We’re told this is a great driver’s car, so don’t expect a Concours restoration. With maybe 1,000 miles on it since all of the redo’s, a walkaround video is added for your viewing pleasure. Original or not, this looks like a nifty muscle car with some road manners.
I have stated that I’m tired of seeing Plum Crazy Purple on Chargers and Challengers that didn’t leave the factory with it here on Barn Finds, but this is actually different on this. I like it. I’m sure this person is not the first to do this with a Demon and I’m not sure if it was a factory color for these though.
It was a factory colour across the Mopar muscle line in ‘70/‘71, not in ‘72.
For 25 grand on any car I want the speedometer to work but that’s just me!

Lovely looking car. Are you sure that’s a 1972 Dodge Dart Demon? Judging by the grille, that looks like either a 1970 or a 1971. They changed the grille after 1971 for the 1972 model year.

The day isn’t over but I was surprised that no one complained about the spoiler or painted bumpers. Those types of seats typically offer good support and hold you in place during corners, especially hard cornering but for me they wouldn’t work as far as getting in and out. My arthritis would hate them the first time I got in and out. Geez, I never pictured the day I’d mention arthritis. Oy Vay. Side note. I’ve always loved Plumb Crazy or the cousin name…Ultra Violet wasn’t it? And a Dodge Demon from the day they hit the showroom or inventory lots.
The motors painted and the engine compartment looks like the pit in a outhouse. To much needs to be done to justify 25K, more like 15K

What is with all the purple paint? I don’t remember hardly amy at all being on the street when these were new.
