In 1965, Ford rolled out the LTD as an upscale version of the Galaxie 500. The advertising claimed the new car rode quieter than a Rolls-Royce. The concept was a huge success, prompting Chevrolet to bring out the Caprice (Impala) and Plymouth the VIP (Fury III). For the third and last year in a row, these big Fords wore stacked headlights, and this one sports them well with original dark green paint and a numbers-matching drivetrain. Located in Lexington, Kentucky, this smooth-riding Ford is available for $11,000 here on craigslist. Another tip brought to us by Rocco B.!

New to the LTD lineup in 1967 was a pillared 4-door sedan, as the car had only been offered as hardtops in its first two outings. The automobile continued as Ford’s top Model through 1986, after which it was rebranded as the Taurus, the heir apparent. All LTDs had V8 engines back in the day, and this one has a base 289 cubic-inch motor with a 2-barrel carburetor and a Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission.

The history of this car isn’t offered, so we don’t know much besides what the photos tell us. The odometer reading is 66,000 miles and – if accurate – supports an easy life for this Ford over the past 59 years. The body and paint look good, as does the interior, though we wish a full photo of the front seat would have been included. The condition of the vehicle is said to be “excellent,” but a personal inspection will be needed to confirm.

Though Ford created the market segment for the LTD and Chevy Caprice, the latter won the sales race in 1967. Chevrolet had 124,500 deliveries compared to Ford’s 88,200 copies. I’ve always wondered if the Caprice could hold its own compared to the Rolls-Royce in the quiet ride game. BTW, this LTD has a brand-new set of shock absorbers, which would help with that claim.

Looks like a very clean LTD. Unfortunately, the typical low-effort craigslist ad.
I remember the owner of my small-town Ford dealer had loaded one (in black) as a demonstrator in 1967. Even though pre-teen me was more into Mustangs, I recall thinking what an attractive car it was.
I forgot to mention…. Another car which begs for period-correct whitewalls (as opposed to the blackwalls Discount Tire happened to have in stock that day).
Awesome front end on this model 👍
Great color and love the stacked headlights. Like Bob says, this big boy begs for whitewalls.
Looks like a good ride for the money.
Ford and Chevrolet played opposite ends of good to better looks with the 65-67 model years (in my opinion anyway). The 65 full size Chev was best looking in 65, the tweaks for 66 and 67 helped differentiate the years but the 65 was the best of all. With Ford–65 was new and good looking and progressively got better looking with 66 and peaked in appearance in 67. Who could say “no” to cars from the mid 60s and this 67 Ford looks great, only drawback is being a standard 4-door and not either a 2-door or 4-door hardtop.
