Some cars are destined to remain staples of the classic scene forever, and I think it is safe to say that the First Generation Ford Mustang belongs on that list. Pristine examples command impressive prices, and even roughies with the right combination of factory options can spring a surprise when they hit the market. This 1967 Mustang Convertible could eventually fall into that category once restored. The seller’s Marti Report indicates that the first owner ordered the car with a rare paint and trim combination, meaning that the buyer won’t park beside an identical vehicle at every Cars & Coffee. They have listed the Mustang here on eBay in Buffalo, Minnesota. They set their BIN at $16,500 with the option to make an offer.
Ford offered 1967 Mustang buyers almost every color of the rainbow, with some paint shades proving more popular than others. The seller ordered a Marti Report for this Convertible, which indicates that only 1,610 buyers ordered a drop-top in Frost Turquoise. Considering that year’s Mustang total production of 472,121 vehicles, that figure represents a tiny percentage. The seller doesn’t describe the car as a survivor, admitting that a previous owner replaced the floors in the 1980s. They undercoated the car at the time, meaning rust hasn’t reappeared. There is surface corrosion in a few spots where the undercoat has lifted, but the floors, rails, trunk pan, and torque boxes are rock-solid. The car’s most pressing needs are a cosmetic refresh and a new White top. The seller states that the power mechanism works perfectly, although the vinyl is well past its best. There are bumps and bruises requiring attention, but the trim and glass look acceptable for a driver-grade restoration. The Magnum 500 wheels are a later addition, which perfectly suit the Mustang’s personality.
If this Mustang’s exterior paint shade makes it relatively rare, the interior trim raises the stakes further. The Marti Report confirms that only 103 Convertible buyers combined Frost Turquoise with an interior trimmed in Aqua vinyl. This Mustang’s interior isn’t perfect, but its appearance is fairly tidy for a classic of this vintage. The seats are free from rips and significant wear, and the carpet is quite clean. The door trims and some plastic components exhibit deterioration, the wheel has cracked quite badly, and the dashpad is beginning to warp. It definitely requires some TLC, but I don’t believe that the buyer will face the cost of a complete interior retrim.
The first owner followed a fairly conventional path with this Convertible, ticking the boxes beside the C-Code 289ci V8 and three-speed automatic transmission on their Order Form. It is a tried-and-true combination, and with the C-Code delivering 200hp and 282 ft/lbs of torque, the car’s performance would have been pretty respectable in most circumstances. Stop/start city traffic wouldn’t be an issue, and the Mustang would take cruising at seventy for hours on the open road in its stride. The seller indicates that they revived the Convertible after a previous owner parked the car in 1996. They replaced most of the motor’s gaskets, the oil pump, fuel pump, water pump, and other components, as required. They say that it runs and drives well, the front end feels tight, and the brakes are excellent. Therefore, this Mustang should be a turnkey proposition for its new owner.
Some rarity claims can be meaningless, adding virtually nothing to a car’s potential value. However, the paint and trim combination chosen by the first owner helps this 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible make a bold, attractive statement. It is far from perfect, but could be the ideal candidate for enthusiasts seeking a hands-on restoration project. Perhaps its greatest strength is its rust-free status, allowing the buyer to tackle the build as time and circumstances allow. There are several signs of previous rust repair, some of which is in need of addressing again. The rust prone area at the top of the passenger side inner fender appears to have a plate welded to the top. This car needs a thorough inspection, significant hidden rust would be more of a deterrent than a rare color is a positive.

I saw that inner fender “repair” too. And with any Mustang, one needs to check the cowl box…assume the drains are plugged. It’s simply part of the plan.
