READER AD: 1985 Chevrolet K-20 Suburban

SOLD

Reader William C is retiring and is cutting expenses, so he’s selling his boat. As a result, he doesn’t have a need for this Chevrolet K20 Suburban to tow his boat anymore. It’s said to run and drive great, but it does need some body work, as there’s some damage to one of the rear corners. Even with the issues, this looks like a solid truck and you don’t see too many of these still on the road. If you’d enjoy having it, you can find it in North Palm Beach, Florida with an asking price of $5,800 or best offer. Follow the link below to view William’s eBay ad!

Asking Price: $5,800
Location: North Palm Beach, Florida
Mileage: 126,000
Title Status: Clean
VIN: 1G8GK26M7FF162125

Seller’s Description: This Suburban was bought and kept in central inland Florida. It has the factory dual exhaust complete with heat shields as original. No rust undercarriage, never beach driven or driven in salt/snow. The interior is very clean. New P.S. box, high-amp alternator, driver’s side window motor. PW/PDL/ front and rear A/C, 12.000 lb warn winch. F&R hitches, 7 pin trailer wiring with additional old style trailer brake actuator.

Body Condition: Some rust from above and an unfortunate need for RR qtr panel repair due to an old man’s rage.

Mechanical Condition: Ready to drive. My secondary daily driver. Use to put boat in/out two miles from house. Selling boat, retiring, hate to do it but have to cut expenses for the end of days.

Too bad about the crunched right rear and rust on the left rear door (hidden rust elsewhere?) as it would seem to be decent buy otherwise. I have never seen a no diesel with the lights above the speedo/ gas gauge. They are normally there for the glow plug indicator and “water in fuel” light. My family put over 300k on an 82 C20 Suburban with a 6.2 diesel. The body on it was PERFECT but I couldn’t give it away about 15 years ago, so it was stripped and sent to the crusher. :(

I thought that too, about the lamps on the instrument cluster. But the factory glove box decal indicates “5.7 Liter Gas V8”. Could the indicators be tied into the 4X4 system?

If I remember correctly, wasn’t there an EGR System light in that place on the gas engine vehicles?

I see that around here in Central VA at about $2000 or so. Without the crunched fender.

This may have been a diesel truck originally – GM was replacing the diesels with
350 Targetmaster crate engines if the owners didn’t want another diesel engine under warranty for the era of this truck. I don’t recall if that was the result of a class action lawsuit or not, but we were shipping a lot of both the diesel and 350 Targetmaster engines in the mid 80’s – so many that we had to be careful to spread the weight in the trailers – the CHP caught one at the scales with too much weight over the drive axle on the tractor, because the supervisor on the loading dock wanted to get an additional dealer’s order on the first trailer out.

Why do some people think that a brand new college degree makes them automatically know more than the workers who’ve been doing the job for over a decade ?

Not in to bad of shape. Perfect for pulling a boat 4 miles rt because these babies cost about .25 cents/mile to drive. These typically sell around here $2000-$2500 price range because they’re $o impractical at today’s fuel prices. I see the young guys buy these, cut the rear sheet metal off and weld cages on the back and to turn them into rock crawlers. Years ago I had a 1/2 ton 4WD Suburban I kept the camping gear in. Saturdays we’d close the shop, fill the tank and the cooler and off road all weekend. I sold it 11 years ago for $800. Last month I bought it back for $200.00 It looks like a bucket but the 400 cu sbc still runs lol.

I’m interested and sent you a note through ebay but it bounced back (probably because I put my email address in the message). My message was a request for some more pictures showing the bottoms of all 4 doors, the tailgate and the rockers. Just need a better view of the current rust issues. I would also like a picture of the passenger rear quarter panel from the front looking back towards the damage. You can send pictures to brianz426@gmail.com Thank you
