The 88 (also Eight-Eight) was an entry- or mid-level full-size car in the Oldsmobile portfolio for more than 50 years. One incarnation was the Dynamic 88, which was in the fold from 1958 to 1968. This 1960 edition is a project that is someone partially disassembled, and it may or may not be complete. If you’re good at putting puzzles together, this 4-door sedan might be an interesting challenge (or a parts car if you’re not so good). Located in East Granby, Connecticut, this Olds is available here on eBay for $2,200.
Oldsmobile redesigned the 88 series in 1959-60 using a more streamlined appearance from earlier in the decade. At one time, Oldsmobile had some of the most chrome-laden products on the market. The 1960 Dynamic was Olds’ budget-conscious purchase as the GM division’s first compact was still a year away. A 371 cubic inch V8 was standard, so no Oldsmobile had any trouble getting out of its own way.
We’re told this vehicle just came out of storage after 40+ years (though it still appears to be there). The “Rocket” V8 is said to be original, but its health is likely one of many areas of concern. The front clip has been removed, and the engine is still there. Photos show a variety of parts in the trunk and scattered around the garage. The body is said to be in good shape, but can the same be said of the chassis?
This would be a more desirable restoration candidate if it were a 2-door hardtop. Reassembling this sedan as a driver doesn’t make a lot of sense, as restoring it as you go might not require that much more effort (though more dollars). Be sure to bring an enclosed trailer so all the loose parts don’t fall off on the way home.
