From the moment he walked through the door, John DeLorean’s vision was to position Pontiac as the performance marque within the General Motors empire. By 2001, DeLorean’s name was a mere entry in the company’s history books, but this Trans Am WS6 Convertible proved that Pontiac still produced cars with genuine performance credentials. It recently emerged after several years in hibernation and is ready to find a new home. The seller has listed the Trans Am here on eBay in Katy, Texas. Twelve bids have pushed the price to $11,211, which is below the reserve.
This 2001 Trans Am is part of what would prove to be the final generation of the Firebird range. It is 1-of-49 WS6 Convertibles ordered in Arctic White with an automatic transmission. The seller revived it after seven years in storage, following a meticulous process. The car presents well for its age, especially considering the seller makes no claims about an exceptionally low odometer reading. The paint retains a healthy shine, with no significant flaws in it or the steel it cloaks. There is no evidence or mention of rust, and although an in-person inspection might expose a few imperfections that aren’t visible in the supplied images, the Pontiac’s overall presentation is consistent with a high-end driver. The Black soft-top fits as tight as a drum, and the chrome 17″ alloy wheels are free from stains and deterioration.
Pontiac sought to provide buyers with a package that perfectly combined safety, performance, and comfort with this Trans Am. Therefore, it is unsurprising to find the interior loaded with features like dual airbags, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power seats, power mirrors, leather trim, cruise control, a tilt wheel, and an AM/FM radio/12-disc CD changer. Looking beyond those bells and whistles, there is a lot to like about this interior, and little justifying criticism. The upholstered surfaces are in excellent condition, with no wear or significant physical damage. The dash and plastic are equally impressive, and the carpet is clean and free from wear. Disguising a substandard interior can be challenging with any drop-top, but the winning bidder won’t face that challenge with this Convertible.
This Trans Am WS6 is far more than a pretty face, seemingly reinforcing Pontiac’s high-performance image. The engine bay houses a 5.7-liter Ram Air V8 producing 325hp and 350 ft/lbs of torque. The first owner teamed the barnstorming V8 with a four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. The car should be genuinely fast, with the factory quoting a ¼-mile ET of 13.8 seconds and a top speed of 163mph. That should represent an exhilarating wind-in-the-hair motoring experience, and if any of the car’s occupants are wearing a wig, they should make sure that it is firmly nailed down! The seller confirms that this Convertible recently emerged from a seven-year slumber and that they followed a meticulous revival project. The engine and transmission received new seals to ensure there are no fluid leaks, while the 17″ wheels feature new Sumitomo tires. The car runs and drives perfectly, with no mechanical issues or shortcomings. The seller includes this YouTube video that provides a comprehensive walkaround and allows us to hear that sweet V8 running. I can’t spot any issues that might cause concern.
The automotive world is littered with marques that are no longer anything but mere memories. Pontiac joined the list in 2010, a victim of market changes and economic rationalism. General Motors shows no signs of planning a revival, making it vitally important that we preserve some of its cars that reflect the DeLorean high-performance philosophy. Otherwise, future generations will fail to understand what has been lost with the company’s demise. This 2001 Trans Am WS6 Convertible is an ideal candidate, and the fact that it is a high-end driver rather than a trailer queen will allow the winning bidder to enjoy this classic as its creators intended. If you have dreamed of doing your bit to preserve an icon, could this Trans Am be a worthy contender?
Here’s a real nice coastal ⛱️ 🌊 cruiser.
I owned a 2002 t-top car with about 11,000 actual miles. Drove it to about 13,000 miles and sold it. Miss it all the time. Comfortable as all get-out, powerful, sounded fabulous, easy to own. Sigh.
Nice looking car. Last time it ran through auction the high bid was $14,000, which did not meet reserve. It was also $1,000 less than the high bid of the red 2000 Trans Am featured on this site earlier this week that has been sitting in a garage for the last 20 years covered in dust , surrounded by junk and wasn’t running. I know which one I’d want.

Looks in great shape for the mileage. The autocheck link in the ebay add says it had 172,000 miles in 2017.
Lot of miles, but later model GM products are pretty bullet proof if they are properly maintained. I am a little torn about the design of these. This won’t make any sense, but I find them sort of ugly and sort of cool at the same time. Anyway, I’ll bet this thing is a gas to cruise in around on a sunny spring day. Also doesn’t seem like all that bad of a price, unless the reserve is something a little nutty.
I think editor didn’t like my earlier comment. I said the country music in the video was obnoxious and I couldn’t hear the engine. Agree with Charlie though. The design is a little overwrought but I like it just the same.
Verrrrry Nice.
The pontiac Blackbird is my all time favorite
Thanks Brent good looking out.Nice desirable Trans Am convertible but don’t expect to get anything close to what you paid 180K ago.
