Like the Ford Mustang in the pony car world, the Plymouth Road Runner was a huge success in the muscle car market. Introduced in 1968, sales would peak in 1969 which included the seller’s rusty example that has a 383 cubic inch V8 and a transplanted 4-speed manual. The roof is going to need repairing and some of the mechanical bits are missing. As a project, this Mopar is in Columbus, Ohio, and is available here on eBay where the But It Now price is $16,500.
This Road Runner left the factory with Y4 Spanish Gold paint and a vinyl top (black?) and a black interior. The vinyl is gone and there are holes and rust where the chrome trim pieces used to be on the C-pillars. That could be the biggest challenge in fixing up this old muscle car, although more corrosion is said to be present in one of the dog legs, lower quarter panels, floors, trunk, and here and there. The health of the engine and transmission is unknown to the seller. He/she bought the car to restore it but has found another more desirable project.
Before the current ownership, the Plymouth was converted from an automatic to a 4-speed (it would have been one of 24,000 hardtops configured as the latter). The VIN decodes as this being the “high performance” version of the 383 motor, but who knows when it was running last. The interior likely needs some help, the chrome on the bumpers is pitting, and some emblems have disappeared. And don’t get your heart set on the current set of wheels – four rollers will come with the car instead.
16500? Cmon man that’s malarkey. Knock off the last zero then we’ll negotiate from there.glwts.
Next best thing to a convertible.
Well ventilated car.
Needs a roof …
The high performance “magnum 383” was the standard engine in the Roadrunner, and the only option was the 426 Hemi.
The 440 6 barrel was available mid-year.
The A12 Road Runner,only 1432 were made
Another “Rusto Mod” Priced in dreamland.
It’s a crying shame to see in this condition.
I’d take a rust free Valiant over this……
Well ya know ya have to adjust for inflation.
