Rust-Free Estate Find: 1982 Jeep J10 4X4 4-Speed

I have mentioned before that the Pacific Northwest corner of the US is my favorite place to find rust-free vehicles. They typically don’t use salt on the roads there and if it’s far enough from the ocean, salt in the air shouldn’t be a problem. This 1982 Jeep J10 4×4 pickup is located in Auburn, Washington, and is listed here on eBay. The current bid price is $6,100 and there is no reserve.

The seller says that this Jeep pickup has had a repaint at some point and it sure looks great. It was owned by a couple in Port Angeles, Washington for forty years and the husband passed away. Shortly after that, his wife reached out to a friend to inquire about selling it. That’s a long story, but anyone who owns a vehicle for 40 years is oftentimes a good caretaker of that vehicle and this truck looks like it’s led a relatively easy life.

The J10 is a half-ton Jeep and the next year, in 1983, Jeep changed their full-time four-wheel-drive name to Selec-Trac from Quadra-Trac. This J10 is a 4×4 Townside bed model and the inside portion of the bed has been painted with a bedliner material. There are a few dings in the tailgate that were painted over and overall it isn’t a perfect truck, but if it’s rust-free, most things can be forgiven in my world. The underside looks rock solid with just some surface rust.

The interior looks fantastic and it looks even better with that 4-speed manual shifter! I didn’t expect to see that but it’s always a welcome sight. The only glitches that the seller mentions inside are a missing dome light cover and the glove box door doesn’t seem to want to open even though it’s unlocked.

The 258 cubic-inch inline-six was made by AMC for a couple of decades and this one runs great but it has a small exhaust leak, possibly from the exhaust manifold. A new alternator and radiator were installed and it sounds like it’s ready to go. Have any of you owned a Jeep J-series pickup?

Non-original grille, it came from a late Grand Wagoneer. It looks good here but might be a sign to check for front-end damage.

I hope the new owner takes as good of care of it as the previous.

Beautiful Truck and a great price!! I also have an 82 J10 with the offered Borg Warner 5spd manual…I love that truck, and they can literally go just about anywhere! These trucks remind me of the Tonka trucks I used to play with as a child, and it is always wonderful to own the life size version! Great buy!

I worked at Templeton Service in Detroit, mi form 1974 until 1982 when Bill Templeton sold the business. He had purchased new a 1971 J 10 pick up truck and had it converted to a Tow Truck by Canfield Equipment Company in Warren,m MI across from the then Chrysler Corporation Warren Truck Assembly Plant. This was a fabulous Tow Truck. We used to wash the truck on Saturday nights before closing. Sometimes we would even wax the truck and it would look like a Million Dollars. The J 10 was a terrific vehicle.

They are great trucks. I had an 85 long bed one. Odd combo of the 258 inline 6 and automatic. The gearing was right so it still did great overall.

Wow someone got themselves a great truck. But if they want to actually drive it and tow with it, that smogged out, weasing 258 has to go! This is a perfect candidate for an LS swap! With possibly a new trans.
