Chrysler redesigned its mid-size cars in 1971 and the Charger was a beneficiary of the changes, at least that year. Sales were up 26% over the prior period, though nowhere near the car’s peak in 1968-69. This ’71 Charger is not in running condition and has a 440 V8 that was sourced from a truck. So, a major restoration lies ahead or perhaps the car would better serve as a donor. Located in Milan, Ohio, this Mopar project is available here on eBay where the bidding has just gotten off the ground at $1,075 (the reserve is unmet).
The all-new 1971 Charger had a more pronounced fastback roofline than it did previously. Due to a reshuffling of body styles that year, the Coronet no longer had a 2-door hardtop, leaving the Charger to fill that need. That model year offered the greatest selection of engines, ranging from a 318 V8 up to a 426 Hemi. We don’t know the history of the seller’s car except that the original motor has been replaced by a 440 that appears to be far from complete. The vehicle had an automatic transmission when new, but no tranny is part of the deal.
Whether the paint on this Dodge is original, we don’t know. It looks like it could be FJ5 Sublime, but we understand that color was reserved only for 1970. Similar is FJ6 Sassy Green, but the jury is out if that’s what’s here. We’re told the Charger has been prepared for painting, but more sanding work is needed — and where did the door handles go? The interior is in disarray, and some of the extra parts we’re told are coming with the car seem to be stored there. If you were to win the auction, what would your plans be for this Dodge?

What ever you pay it is too much. Ugly car in an even uglier color. Just my opinion, mind you. Back when the world was at least a little sane, this would be worth scrape price minus the cost to deliver it to the crusher.

440s were used in everything from cars, campers, trucks and aircraft towing tractors.
I worked in my village’s public works department in the summers… the tree chipper was 440 Chrysler powered. There were also air raid sirens in the mid 50’s that were hemi powered.

Love the old Mopars but if it’s in Ohio, rest assured it’s full of rust.
Based on the taillights and the side marker lights (or the outline of the side marker lights), this is not a 71 Charger. It is more than likely a 72. A pic of the VIN or data plate will answer this question but it’s important for the seller to be truthful and accurate.

Somebody needs to send this seller back to school. ’72 as a ’71? 440 Hemi?!! I’ll rank that right up there with an ad for a first-gen Mustang I saw years ago: The seller claimed it had a Boss 289! I reckon it probably ran on unobtanium! 🤣
