Some classics blend into their surroundings, barely creating a ripple when they appear in public. Others draw crowds like moths to a flame, and I’d bet this 1961 Chevrolet Corvette is one of them. Its presentation is stunning, and its appeal broadens to purists when they discover it is numbers-matching. It is a “plug-and-play” option, needing nothing but a new home. Barn Finder Curvette keeps spotting these wonderful classics, so thank you so much for your contribution, Curvette. The Corvette is listed here on Craigslist in Edmonds, Washington, and $64,950 is all that stands between you and becoming its next proud owner.

It’s hard to know where to start when assessing this Corvette, because there is so much to take in. Although it isn’t specifically stated, the car’s stunning presentation suggests it has undergone at least a frame-on restoration. The two-tone Honduras Maroon and White combination looks stunning. If that combination is original, it is relatively rare, with only 647 buyers ordering it that model year. The paint has a mirror shine and a depth of color you could sink into. The fiberglass beneath is equally impressive, with no obvious cracks or other problems. The seller provides several underside shots, and though a few spots show dry surface corrosion, the frame appears rock-solid. The seller recently installed a new Al Knoch White soft-top, which needs some time raised to eliminate the wrinkles accumulated from when it was packed for shipping. The trim and glass are excellent, and the wheelcovers with their wide whitewalls add the ideal finishing touch.

Purists will welcome the news that the listing images confirm this Corvette’s numbers-matching status. The engine bay houses the entry-level 283ci V8, producing a factory-claimed 230hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque. The driver controls ratio shifting via a four-speed manual transmission. Although the ‘Vette won’t be fast by modern standards, the low driving position and the unmistakable small-block growl will make life very pleasant. The seller says that they recently performed significant brake work, replacing the entire front system, the wheel cylinders, and the shoes. It runs and drives perfectly, with no identified mechanical needs. The only item that caused raised eyebrows is the exhaust, which looks quite corroded. It might be nothing, but potential buyers may need to source a replacement fairly soon. However, handing over the cash is all that stands between a potential new owner and the open road.

I spent considerable time examining the seller’s listing images, trying to find something to criticize. I came up short because the car looks so good. The Black-trimmed interior is no exception. The upholstered surfaces and carpet are spotless, further reinforcing my belief that it was recently restored. Another factor is the 150-mile odometer reading, which might indicate an odometer reset after a restoration. I can’t fault the dash, and the gauges feature clear lenses and crisp markings. There are no aftermarket additions, and the first owner ordered this ‘Vette with the $137.75 AM radio, which is intact.

Some people feel that they aren’t true enthusiasts if they haven’t undertaken a project build. The reality is that getting their hands dirty doesn’t define an enthusiast. What makes them genuine enthusiasts is what they feel deep down and their passion for classics. There is nothing wrong with buying a high-end driver, as long as it provides satisfaction. This 1961 Chevrolet Corvette offers that opportunity, and I suspect it won’t take long to find a new home. The fact that you are reading this article suggests you feel that passion, but are those feelings deep enough to pursue this Corvette further?

Got that right, Adam. Everyone has their own definition of what a gearhead is, and if someone hasn’t or can’t turn a wrench it doesn’t mean they don’t have the same surge of endorphins as those who have when they see a beauty like this one.
Ah, the venerable 283 SBC, coupled to a 4 speed. A perfect combination in this configuration to cruise the backroads of America. Someone should make a TV show like that, where a couple friends just get out on the horizon blue and go everywhere on some iconic 2 lane like, say, Route 66. In the end of the driver might go on to become an LAPD training officer who would be surprised the first time his trainee showed up on occasion with the double to one he drove back in the day…
No wonder this caught your attention, Curvette! Stunning car.
And in answer to your question Adam, many of us have feelings deep enough to pursue this but not everyone has a wallet deep enough to do so.
GLWTS
Nevadahalfrack, you forgot one thing. The radio needs to be playing a certain Theme song thats both written and performed by Nelson Riddle, you need good traveling music too.
Adam, I agree, this Vette is stunning. Great color combination too. And a 283 and a 4 speed will still keep up with traffic as well. This one is absolutely beautiful.
Perfect, Driveinstile! That is, where an AM station is available..
One of my student friends got gifted a new 4 light black one for getting close to graduating. He often hauled 3 kids and as the short one of the bunch I got to sit on the hump. That meant I did the shifting being the only one who could reach the lever. Beautiful car then, beautiful car now.
The front view is the Money Shot !
What a Great looking car.
Never seen one in this color combo, what a gem.
