The Satellite was added as an upgrade to the B-body Plymouth Belvedere in 1965. And it replaced the latter as the overall series in 1971. The seller has what could be rather rare – a 1974 Satellite coupe with a Slant-Six engine (we’re betting the lion’s share were built with a 318 or 360 cubic inch V8). Needing some work, this Mopar comes with the parts needed to get it back on the road. Located in Salem, Oregon, this project is available here on craigslist for $4,995. Another cool tip from “Curvette”.

Chrysler’s B-bodies were redesigned in 1971. And Plymouth took a different route by styling the hardtops differently from the sedans and wagons. Also, there were no more convertibles in the mix. A refresh of the appearance of the Satellite came in 1973, so the 1974 models were little changed. The seller’s 1974 edition appears to be the basic coupe, and we’re betting not that many were produced with a Slant-Six. You might have had to order one to get it without a V8. By 1975, the Satellite was gone, replaced by the Fury, formerly a full-size offering.

As the story goes, this car’s previous owner had plans for the Plymouth, but a medical issue arose, and he sold the car to the seller. Including the parts it may need to get it going again. The Satellite has an automatic transmission, but the rest of the options may be limited. The body needs some work on the driver’s side rear quarter panel. And the interior may have aftermarket covers over the seats.

Plymouth built just over 10,600 of the basic coupes in 1974. We don’t know how many of them didn’t have a V8, but let’s guess and assume 20%. So, there couldn’t have been that many in stock at the local Plymouth dealer when the original owner came calling. These Slant-Sixes were bulletproof, but one does seem like a fish out of water in a mid-70s Satellite. Will the next owner restore it as-is or shoot for a Road Runner clone?

Dents on both the Captain’s and drinker’s sides
At least the price isn’t floating in the stratosphere. If you like that body style, the car appears (at least in photos) to be mostly there. I never understood why people will dump crazy money into hot rodding a 6 cyl. For the same money, you can find a 318 and get twice the power, for the same cheddar.
Whose idea was it to installl those tinkertoy side mirrors? They are hideous! The rest of the car’s not too far behind. GLWTS.
