Snowbound Project: 1970 Dodge Challenger

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1970 Dodge Challenger has been looking for someone to save it for at least 18 months. We last saw it in August 2023, but the surroundings and photographs have changed, leading us to believe it has been flipped at least once during all that time. It still has plenty of rust and the engine is stuck, so its prospects may be limited. Located in Amsterdam, New York, this snowbound project or donor is available here on eBay where no reserve is involved, and the current bid is $2,600.

Dodge was the last U.S. automaker to field a pony car, long after Ford started the movement. Perhaps the vehicle came about because the Plymouth Barracuda got an all-new platform in 1970, and Chrysler wanted to share the wealth. After a strong start at 77,000 units, demand dropped off quickly, perhaps due to market saturation and that some pony cars were seen as a risk by insurance companies. The Challenger was gone after 1974, only to return in a larger package some 30+ years later.

We’re told this Dodge was last on the road in 1978. It was parked in a backyard where grass and such grew up all around it. That’s what it looked like when we last saw it here on Barn Finds. Today, it has moved to a driveway surrounded by snow and still needs a lot of vision and money to return to the living. It has the basic 318 cubic inch V8, which will likely get tossed in favor of something bolder since it’s frozen up anyway.

The Dodge isn’t complete, and things like the grill and gauges have gone MIA. Also, rust and corrosion are a big problem with gaping holes in many of the interior panels (trunk floor, for example). Since New York State didn’t do titles in those days, the seller is selling the car with a clean and transferable NYS registration. For extra cost, the seller will throw in an extra pair of fenders to help with the cause. Do you think that this Challenger will ever find love?

Maybe we can see a bit more defining major rust pics?

Oh NO,Frog, No one would shoot you 🔫. You’re much too important to THE GREAT AMERICAN LAND YACHT SOCIETY! And yes, we humans can’t control the weather. BUT, perhaps IA. Seems like it’s taking control of everything 😕 🙄.

ACZ an end loader, push broom and a shovel is more like it. Don’t forget to get a tetanus shot.

Looks like at least the left side torsion bar anchor crossmember is shot. More likely both sides are gone. What a pitiful pile of junk. I know how rare E bodies are, I have two convertibles, 70, and 71, but this one, being a 318 car probably isn’t worth restoring even if you got it for free.

Looks like the front suspension has collapsed, probably due to rust. $50 at most – and that might be the payment to remove it.

This looks worse than the Packers performance in the playoffs against the Eagles today.

A lot worse. At least the Packers had an outside chance in the last few minutes. This car has none.

Parts car at best. Maybe not even that. Seller should pay someone to haul it to the grave.
