Sport Truck: 1994 Ford F150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 has been America’s best-selling pickup truck for ages. From 1993 to 1995, they offered a Lightning Edition from the SVT boys (Special Vehicle Team), not to be confused with the more recent electric version. This one had a performance/sporty slant, with a 240-horsepower V8 engine. The Ford has had a single owner since new in 1994 and is probably best described as a survivor, as it’s got a few rough edges. Located in Staten Island, New York, this pickup is available without reserve here on eBay where the current bid is $2,025.

Ford released the SVT Lightning in 1993 to compete with a similar product from Chevrolet. It was designed with more spirited handling in mind, thanks to a racing influence. It was powered by a 351 cubic-inch V8 rated at a healthy 240 horses thanks to an upgraded intake manifold and cylinder heads. An automatic transmission was the only selection offered in that area. The interior was also bumped up, adding to the sport element of the ride. Ford sold 11,563 Lightnings in three years, 4,007 of which were consumed in 1994 when this one was built.

We’re told this is a one-owner pickup with close to 100,000 miles, so it was used rather than socked away for future collectability. This Lightning is fully loaded with everything you can imagine or need, including a cassette tape player! A standard cab/bed arrangement applies here with deep red paint and grey upholstery. New to the truck are both fuel tanks and pumps, and the engine has been tuned up.

At a minimum, you will have to replace the tires as they are old and have dry rot. So, the pickup isn’t quite a driver, but almost. There is some rust on the chassis, which would be typical for its location, and include some suspension pieces you may want to replace. We’re told everything works as it should, so take care of some maintenance needs and put it to work.
