Many enthusiasts find the prospect of storing their classic for the winter months difficult and are typically waiting with bated breath for summer to arrive so that they can hit the road. This 1950 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible is a different kettle of fish, having hibernated since 2005. The seller has revived this beauty and is willing to keep tinkering to bring this Caddy to its best. The trade-off is that it appears that the price will climb as more tasks are completed. Therefore, potential buyers must strike a balance between their needs and their available budget. The seller has listed the Convertible here on eBay in Campbell, California. They set their BIN at $24,000 with the option to make an offer.

The Third Generation of Cadillac’s Series 62 range marked the company’s first new model following the end of World War II. It underwent a mid-cycle update in 1950, which was the year that our feature Convertible left the factory. The seller describes it as a solid car that needs love, a fact that is best demonstrated by the tired White soft-top. It detracts from an exterior that looks quite respectable. Its Green paint retains a healthy shine, with no visible major flaws in what are some pretty limited exterior images. The panels are straight and, since it has spent its life in California, the rust-free status is unsurprising. The trim looks quite acceptable for a driver-grade classic, and the glass is clear. The Series 62 is a large car by the standards of the day, with this impression accentuated by the fender skirts.

One aspect of this Cadillac that needs little is its interior. It presents well, with no signs of major wear or other problems. The painted surfaces wear the same shade of Green that graces the exterior, with the Brown and Tan upholstery providing a classy contrast. It isn’t highly optioned by modern standards, but the buyer receives power windows, an AM radio, and a clock. There are no engine photos, but lifting the hood should reveal the 331ci V8 that Cadillac introduced in 1949 to replace its venerable flathead powerplant. Power and torque figures of 160hp and 312 ft/lbs, feeding to the road via a four-speed automatic transmission, look relatively modest. This is especially true when you consider that the Convertible’s curb weight sits comfortably north of 4,500 lbs. However, buyers selected these classics for the luxurious motoring experience they provided, not for outright performance. The seller states that after its two-decade slumber, this Caddy has been revived. It runs and drives nicely, although the new owner needs to replace the tires due to age. They only have a few miles under their belt, but they were fitted just before the car went into storage. They might be okay, but I wouldn’t take the risk.

The listing text suggests that the seller initially offered this 1950 Cadillac Convertible at $23,000, but the price has already risen to $24,000. Therefore, it appears that they are serious about the fact that each additional completed task will add further to the sale price. The buyer faces a few known tasks, including replacing the aging tires. Their best option would probably be to approach the seller immediately to determine what else is required before the Caddy hits the road in earnest. It may prove to be a balancing act between needs and budget. Is that the path that you would take, or would you buy this beauty as-is?

Pretty solid for what you’re getting here. And I can tell you first hand that I’ve seen worse cars being offered on eBay for this price, or even higher. Kudos
to our seller for getting the car running and driving before.the sale. His.price is down to earth and it shouldn’t be long before he
has a buyer. The only thing that
really would worry me would be
The hydraulic system for the top
windows. When a hose blows, you’re gonna have a real mess on your hands. Not only does the
fluid smell, but it is EXTREMELY
corrosive and will eat through most anything it touches! Sorry
folks, but I think I’d wanna replace
those hydraulic window lifts with
electronic ones that would be much safer for both the car and the passengers. All that being said, so long as his price doesn’t
go through the roof, I’d gladly pay
him for his time and effort as I now have health issues that would keep me from doing most
everything myself as I once did. Yeah folks, I could just see myself being chauffered about by a very nice lady who would enjoy
this car as much as I would. Angel, are you up for it?
Apparently the seller was too lazy to move the car out of the parking lot to get some decent pictures. That’s a shame. There are some great lines on this car.
I was 9 years old when this beauty was new and I can still remember how I admired cars like this. I must have been born to be a car guy. If you had a car like this in 1950 you were obviously rich and a sporting type person. You would definitely stand out and be admired, and capture the attention of people who wanted a car like this but had no possibility of affording one. Speaking from experience, LOL. Unlike today, there was no leasing or six year financing available, so the typical working person couldn’t afford a Cadillac. I wonder who the original owner of this car was. They must have taken good care of it as it still looks to be in very nice condition. I would love to have it and I think the price is very reasonable, but I will have to leave for sone other lucky buyer. I wish them good luck with it.
I bought it😇
Think price was very good, love these era convertibles!
@Ken thanks for the tip regarding the roof hydraulics, i will definately check
Well done, Alexander! What a lot of car for the money. I would have liked to have brought it to the UK, but I just don’t think that would have been fair as she’s so used to the sun! A great project and I hope you get lots of enjoyment out of her.
I think we have just as little sun over here in the Netherlands😁
Congratulations, Andrew! May you get an immense amount of enjoyment out of her.
I just love seeing these success stories on BF.
Nice! You will look so cool cruising this baby around, especially in the Netherlands!
