Cleverly hidden amidst pictures of similar cars in the listing here on eBay, this imperfect but tidy-looking white 1971 Plymouth Barracuda convertible summons a new owner. Its running gear, the 318 cid V8 and three-speed manual transmission, may curb the runaway bidding catalyzed by more muscular Mopar E body convertibles. However the $72,777 Buy It Now price may cause anyone who bought –or sold– one of these before 1990 to suffer a brief stroke.
Here it is away from the herd. It looks to have cleaned up nicely, at least from this angle.
Though unlikely to mimic the car’s original color combination, the listing describes it as such… except for a new dash pad. What we can see here looks either relatively new or well-kept, and the console is a nice plus.
The seller says the “excellent Texas body” gained new quarter-panels but otherwise remains solid and original. Better yet it “runs and drives great,” words not often used to describe our feature cars. Basic equipment includes manual brakes and steering, and the convertible top alone provides fresh “air conditioning.”
Anyone who survived the disclosure of this small-block convertible’s Buy It Now price is encouraged to comment below regarding the likelihood of it bringing full price. If they want $72,777 for this one, what do they want for the “uber rare 71 converts”?
I like Barracudas, I like 318’s, but over $70,000 for a 318 Barracuda convertible? LOL Barrett-Jackson syndrome strikes again!
72 large for this and they didn’t detail the engine?? Hmmm. Pass the koolaid and Cannabis!!!!
Maybe they ran out of white paint…?
He also writes a confusing ad.
“I ALSO HAVE some uber rare 71 converts in case u want the rarest of mopars” Isn’t that what he’s selling?
He also has in the ad free shipping, but that’s only to “MONSTER MOPAR MUSCLE CAR SHOW in st.louis , mo sept 15”
So is it free shipping or not as that show has sailed…
I think I have the money – I’ve got the $$ in my wallet, oh just noticed it’s $70K not $70. Sorry, don’t have that.
I love these Cudas even though I’m no convertible fan BUT 72K for a 318 car , not in my life time.
What RoKo and the rest of y’all said…..
I think this is a 30K car at best. Have fun letting it sit in your garage…
I agree!! I never heard of a 3-speed manual in a Cuda before.
I handled a number of A-body cars from that period with the 3-onda-flo. Can’t see why Mother Mopar would not put them in the E-body cars too.
I remember seeing one of these: whjte, convertible, 318 for sale in my Local Auto Trader here in Massachusetts in the eraly 90’s. They were asking $1,800 and they couldn’t get rid of it.
The car did need some work but i was tempted at the time.
I like the E-body cars, but many things keep me from owning one – BTW, I once owned a 71 Cuda ragtop, 440 six pak, 4-speed – but the claustrophobia-inducing interior and over-the-top fever for these in the old car scene just gels me out. I want cars you see at NO car shows, or otherwise. That is a F-ton of money for a car you’ll see dozens of at any large Mopar meet. That’s just not my bag. Still, the 71 quad headlight car is my favorite of the bunch, and it is still a pleasure to see them. And while it would be fun to tease the foamers by just driving it around, I just have “other things” to do with my money than tie it up on a car like this.
Too much $$$$$ for what’s being offered!! I was just looking at a ’72 Cougar XR-7 triple dk green for $7k. I’m a MOPAR man and I think this listing is insane!! Put that price on the shaker hood cars and change this to $20k, then sell some cars. I’m out.
Listing says the car is in Prior Lake, MN.. No guarantees it was a drier TX car on top of way high price!
Over priced. Nice collection though. The kind of collection you brag about on a forum this one. Unlike some people…….
If this car was realistically priced it’d be in my driveway 5 minutes ago. As mentioned above Barrett Ripoff has made Kelvinator fridges 5 figure items now.
