By 1960, the Bel Air had been replaced by the Impala as Chevrolet’s top-of-the-line car. It was the middle trim selection between the Impala and the Biscayne. This 1960 Bel Air is a 4-door sedan which sports a lot of custom touches, from a low-rider stance to the burgundy paint job, and the blinged-out motor under the hood. But we’re told it needs interior work. In what may be the most unusual trade scenario we’ve seen of late, the seller is willing to trade the car for a new septic system installed on his property. The 1960 Chevies had their styling toned down a little from the batwing, “cat’s eye” taillights on the 1959 redesign. We don’t know how this Bel Air began life, but coming with a 283 cubic inch V8 and a 2-speed Powerglide transmission is quite possible. But is that configuration still in play today, as the photo provided of the engine compartment could portray a more modern powerplant? The seller doesn’t get into these details.

Likely not the original color combination, the white over burgundy/maroon paint looks really sharp, especially offset by the very darkly tinted glass. That glass prevents us from getting any peeks at the interior that the seller says needs to be redone. The stated mileage is 12,453, but that sounds conveniently like a placeholder or the number of miles since the drivetrain was redone.

If you’re an expert at buying and installing a septic tank system, this could be your lucky day. For the cost of the parts and your time, you could trade for this 1960 Bel Air custom job. I suspect you will need to provide adequate credentials because this is a job much bigger than just digging a hole in the ground.
