Unassuming Beast: 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass

1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass

This Cutlass may look ratty, but it’s packing some serious heat! You wouldn’t guess it by looking at the mismatched hood, but there’s a built 425 under there. The seller claims that the paint and interior are original and that the car is ready to be completed. I’m assuming that they mean it needs paint and an upholstery job, but personally I’d be tempted to address any issues and storm around in it as-is. The car does have a menacing look and there’s plenty of horsepower to back it up. Take a look here on eBay and let us know what you think. The car is located in Canada, but the seller mentions that they can deliver it to the Montana border.

Cutlass Interior

See? The interior doesn’t look too bad. I’d order an upholstery kit for those front seats and pull out my hog ring pliers. The rest of car looks pretty good, but any potential buyers will want to ask more about things like the suspension, brakes, and rust. The seller includes many details about the engine, but not much else. Oddly enough there isn’t even a photo of that impressive mill…

if the owner paid as much attention to the engine rebuild as they did to the ebay listing i would want no part of this vehicle.

Personally I would paint the hood matte black and then drive the hell out of this car. If the engine was done correctly these cars can be driven forever. I had a friend in the early 70’s that had one and it rusted away before it stopped running. Olds made a dependable motor

      Good plan for the hood!

the 425 cu. in. engine was only available from 1965 thru 1967 in the full sized cars. The base motor for the Cutlass was the 350 in 1968, and I think the 455 was the optional engine, except in the 4-4-2. I had a 66 dynamic 88 2 door hardtop with the 425 and my dads’ 1967 Delmont 2 door hardtop had the 425 in it also.
