After a strategic miscue in 1962, Plymouth had downsized its full-size cars to intermediate proportions. By 1965, they had rebounded, and the Fury was a big car once again, leaving the Belvedere to compete with the Chevy Chevelle and Ford Fairlane. The Satellite was the new top-end mid-size model and – for 1965 – was only sold as a hardtop or convertible. The seller’s car is the latter, one of just 330 built with a 361 cubic inch V8. Located under a tent in Tampa, Florida, this Mopar will need some bodywork and a parts car is provided to help. The pair is available here on craigslist for $4,500.
To help make the 1965 Satellites special, they came with bucket seats and a center console, and only V8 power was offered. While you go up to a 426 “Wedge” V8, the “Commando” 361 was a middle-ground option that wasn’t long for inclusion on the buyer checklist. Only 1,860 Satellite convertibles were sold that year, making the seller’s car one of about every six built.
Perhaps due to the tight quarters, the seller’s photos are few. For example, we only see the driver’s side of the car and nothing of the interior or engine compartment. The green paint (or is it blue?) has long since lost its luster and we’re told the only rust issues are with the floorboards, for which new replacements come with the deal.
Factory air conditioning was a rarity with drop-tops in those days and the seller says this car was one of only 10-15% so equipped. There is a 1964 Fury convertible that comes with the sale, which also used the B-body platform like the ’65 Satellite. No photos are offered, so there’s no telling what it looks like or what is usable off of the vehicle. I’m guessing a trip to Florida is needed to see just exactly what you’d be getting for the money.
Too bad it wasn’t the 383
my 65 still has the original 361, runs just fine at 70mph, yes its not a real go getter like a 383, but for what it is, it does just fine given the age.
When I was a kid one of the big guys on my block ordered a new black 1965 Satellite with 383, 4 bbl and 4 speed.
I thought is was the meanest car in the world.
Sometimes he would let me come along to the drag strip.
Just saw him yesterday, he still has cool cars.

no interior or engine or inside trunk pictures underneath even would be good its almost like sight unseen and too far away to look at
