The Thames 800 van was a staple of late 50’s through the 60’s commercial operations in the United Kingdom. Sized like a small minivan, the small Ford hauled many an item around from warehouse to store. I have no idea how this one ended up in Idaho, but the seller states that it’s 95% complete and rust-free, but doesn’t run. Thanks to fellow writer Jeff L. for this terrific and unusual find! It’s located in Boise and is listed for sale here on craigslist for $2,000. The seller notes that it is left hand drive, so I’m wondering if it originally came in to Canada. Regardless, it’s certainly rare in the US and would be a useful vehicle once refurbished. Would you use one rather than a modern minivan?

Vintage Thames Minivan In Idaho

Right after high school, 1972, my old man rented a warehouse in Milwaukee,Wis., and one of these was in there abandoned. It was a panel van, no windows, I believe it had a 4 cylinder, and a 3 speed on the column. We never got it running, and used it as a storage shed for our car parts for years. Finally, the old man had it hauled away.
There was a Thames that someone was restoring and re powering with Lexus running gear. I’ve lost the link. Anyone remember that one?
I have both front and rear bumper for this Van if anybody here will buy it….
I’ve got a factory service manual and I think a parts book for these things. So if anyone here buys the truck, I have reading material for you.
