Of all the cars that turn up here on Barn Finds, one of the most popular is the second-generation Dodge Charger. They were in demand when new, and today, even after 55+ years (thanks to The Dukes of Hazzard and other media). Some are pretty rough, yet command big bucks, but not all of them can be saved. This ’69 Charger begs that question, as it’s bent and crushed in several places. Located in Hollywood, Alabama, this needy Mopar is available here on eBay, where the first bid of a penny shy of $4,000 has yet to be cast.
Dodge went from selling less than 16,000 copies of the Charger in its second year (1967) to more than 92,000 in its third. 1969 would nearly equal that at 85,000 units, while 1970 would cool off at 46,000 automobiles. The B-body redesign of 1968 was especially kind and effective to and for the Charger, which would be popularized in the Steve McQueen movie, Bullitt, and the folks from Hazzard County on both TV and the big screen.
We’re told this Dodge has orange paint, though what’s left of it seems blue to me (wish we had the cowl tag). The interior is finished in black, but that’s hard to tell. A dealer is said to be involved in the sale of the car with a mileage statement of 167,845 (placeholder?). It has a numbers-matching 383 cubic inch V8 plus a TorqueFlite automatic transmission.
The referenced damage is in the right front, and the seller believes the frame wasn’t damaged, but the bumper bracket was. There is no title, as the seller says new cars sold before 1978 in Alabama didn’t have them. So, you’ll have to do battle with your state’s DMV with the Dodge’s most recent registration and license plate. They can’t all be saved, but the seller hopes this one can be. What are your thoughts?
If you ask me, that’s not even a good parts car.

Sure they do. Crush it and sell it for scrap metal. I USED to like these until prices got stupid.
Worth saving? No. Even highly sought after cars like the 1968-1970 Charger have their limits.

The problem with that is who’s going to pay the bills. Most successful shops don’t do spec work, they only restore cars for paying customers.

I think that asking price is slightly unrealistic…
I believe in saving as many old vehicles as possible, because when they’re gone, they’re gone. I also believe people are allowed to wish the best for a project, even without the means to take it on themselves. That said, this is ridiculous.
The only way to determine the value of this mess is to weigh it. You should add a category to BF: “Who would do this to a car”
you have got to be kidding me. i would not pay 4 cents for it. only value i see is scrap metal not even worth it for yard art.

No frame damage?? No kidding, there is no frame! Have to agree with the others that have commented, this is not even a candidate for a parts car. The seller would do well to haul it to a recycling facility as that would likely garner more more money than a junk yard would pay for it.
Other than the ‘included’ drive train the vin plate is all that is left due to its previous donor status.
Ok…..it’s on a trailer….pull the damn thing OUTSIDE and get decent pictures.Clean the crap out and off of it. Take better pictures.Can it be saved? $60,000 later maybe.

Twenty five years ago, this pile would not even be for sale. Thanks to the idiots on blogs that know nothing about cars, Mecum, BJ and other auctions and the fact everything made since about 2012 is nothing but junk, that is why there is so much interest in old cars. Plus, all new vehicles look like crap, run like crap and cost tens of thousands. Add in the fact old guys, like me, like reliving their youth. This car could be saved, but at what cost. The word Titantic comes to mind.
Not even a donor car…unless you’re looking for rust. Sad to see something so neglected. It’s held together literally with tie down straps.
Scrap yard near me in the Toledo, OH area is paying $200.00 a ton for scrap steel, there might be a ton on the trailer! That’s all it’s worth IMO.

This is a VIN plate car. Use just enough of it on another car to make it legal.
