’57 Belaro! 1999 Chevrolet Camaro

What do you get when you cross a fourth-generation Chevy Camaro with a 1957 Chevy fiberglass kit from Easy Rods? A Belaro, of course! This is not one of the first these cars we’ve seen, as our own Scotty Gilbertson covered one in 2018. You get the modern conveniences of a more recent Camaro combined with the looks fore and aft of a ’57 Bel Air. Located in Mesa, Arizona, this Belaro drop-top, based on a 1999 Chevy, is available here on craigslist for $15,900. Thanks for the tip, PaulG!

As we understand it, the Belaro kit will fit on any Camaro built between 1993-03. For $5,595 (plus shipping), you can receive a complete package from Easy Rods to convert the exterior of the car to look like a ’57 Bel Air, at least from the front and back. Nothing changes in terms of the car’s drivetrain or interior accommodations; it’s strictly cosmetic. We understand the conversion takes about 50 hours to complete and the kit includes all the parts, bolts, screws, and glue (yes, glue) to facilitate the transformation.

The kit comes with a variety of items, which consists of the following, at a minimum:

  • Fiberglass hood, and front fenders with the bumper attached
  • Covers for both doors and the requisite tailfins
  • Inner and outer trunk lid and taillights
  • Everything needed to assemble, except chrome
  • Video and complete instructions

We don’t know when this ’99 Camaro got the retro treatment, but the car has 80,000 miles, so it has seen plenty of use. It’s a convertible with all the usual goodies, such as power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, an automatic transmission, and a V8 motor (possibly a 346 cubic inch engine that produced 300 hp). We’re told the Chevy drives and looks great and makes the car show scene in Arizona. One questionable thing is that the title has been rebuilt. Why? The car is still a ’99 Camaro with the kit installed. Was it wrecked and the kit covers up some of what may have happened?

This would look much better if the bumpers were chromed instead of painted, otherwise it’s kinda cool. Wouldn’t look as nice in coup form. My biggest concern would be the title, most states wouldn’t issue one because of modifications. Most likely been involved in a serious accident, in person inspection would be a must.

Can’t chrome fiberglass. Maybe do a chrome wrap on those parts. I agree, it’s kinda cool.

Why all the haters on BF lately? Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but my Daddy taught me if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.

Actually we have a company over here that can chrome anything, including fibreglass. I also had it done many years ago in South Africa where they chrome plated my 1978 plastic Chrysler New Yorker waterfall grille. Ken Tilly. UK.

I had the pleasure of seeing one of these in person at Camaro Nationals in 2010. It was every bit of what you expected up close. I won’t spoil it for you but if he’s paying you 15k to take it off his hands it might be a good deal. Maybe.

You are right. The proportions are off on top of being ugly. The title says “rebuilt” which would be deal killer on its own at this price. Someone would be better off finding a nice Z28, SS, Formula or Trans Am for similar money.

These were my initial thoughts, George, and you just confirmed it! This “thing” looks ridiculous in the photos and I can’t imagine it looking much different in real life. IMO a waste of time, money, and a 1999 Camaro.

No taillights, no front turn signals. Nicer than the one featured on BF, but nope.

They made a kit for the 89 / 94 T-Bird also to make it look like the 49 Shoe Box Ford ….. They Both End Up Looking Like A $HIT BOX. The 57 Chevy is a classic the this FUBAR Mess should never have happen. I’m Bleed FORD Blue but this gotta go

I saw a 49 Ford front end grafted onto a Toyota Rav 4 recently. Interesting. The work was well done. The combination was…. unusual.

I thought the stock Camaro had a big butt, but this thing has a butt like one of those rap guys’ girlfriends. I mean that butt, it’s just so big! I can’t believe it’s so round, it’s just out there!

I guess they would use something like this in an “American Grafitti” reboot?

My friend spent many hours and dollars making one of these. In person ot looks like a 10 year old tried to carve a 1957 Chevrolet with a dull knife. The Fprd looks much better.
I saw a full size Chevrolet 1/2 ton with a replica 1957 Chevrolet hood, and quarter panels. It looked better than this.

I’ve built “R” title cars for over 47 years, only the perception fueled by news media hype about “flood” cars hurts the fair market value! most cars are totaled because of air bag deployments and many have very minimal actual damage, this car probably had to be R titled as it no longer resembles a Camaro and in some states that alone requires a reconstructed title, however a vin search could clear the air, it’s a cool build not for everyone but appreciate the craftsmanship just my 2c
