1970 International Scout Aristocrat 4×4 304 V8

This patina-heavy Scout 800A is a special model called an Aristocrat. It seems funny for such a basic and agricultural-like 4×4 to have such a posh top hat-wearing name, but special editions were a good way to add some zing to this otherwise basic 1970 International Scout. The seller has it listed here on eBay in Dallas, Texas and there aren’t any takers at the opening bid price of $1, very surprising.

The opening photo looked as if this Scout 800A Aristocrat may have been painted blue at some point, didn’t it? Unless the gray primer was just picking up blue light or something. The body color on this special edition was silver and that’s it, no other colors were available in the Aristocrat. The hood and top were both blue, but the sides were silver.

International made the 800A version of the Scout beginning in late 1968 until 1970. There was a short-lived 800B model until 1971 and then they were redesigned into the Scout II, the last hurrah for International’s Scout line. The Aristocrat edition had silver and blue paint, a blue vinyl interior, a chrome roof rack, and badges showing it as a special edition. You can see that this example is fairly rugged and will need a full restoration, which such a rare model deserves.

Even with all of the rust visible, and if you go through all of the seller’s photos you’ll see what’s involved, this is a worthy project as you’ll most likely never see another one at a car show. This example has a Borg Warner three-speed automatic with a gear selector on the center console. I don’t see a back seat among the seller’s photos but there’s a photo of the top so that’s good. Hagerty is at $11,900 for a #4 fair-condition Scout 800A, just as a general reference.

The engine is International’s 304-cu.in. OHV V8, which had 193 horsepower and 272 lb-ft of torque when new. This one isn’t currently running and the seller says this is a nice, dry south Texas truck and is solid overall. Have any of you heard of this Scout model?

nope, but I dont follow them that much.

Really love to have this one. Back in ’82 when I got the ’70 bronk (still have) I thought of these but they’d just gone out of production (IH stopped all ‘light trucks’ claiming bankrupcy. Only hafta make prts 7 yrs after). Buds have ‘em thru production yrs’n 80/800 are the models to have (in my mind).
Somebody should get to this one soon (as per the surface rust all over).
Love a 1/2 cab (bronk lingo) rag top’n a wagon (same) hrd top for this. Wonder bout a 4 speed auto (is OD) & the ford 4.9 efi (’87/96) rather than the (off rd) tire spinnin bent8…

These were a good performer back in the day. Scout was doing well with everything that came down the pipe. This one with the 304 was sort of a step-up from the totally basic off-road truck. You could clean it up and take it out for a night on the town, if so desired.

A nice project truck. If this came my direction I sure wouldn’t turn it down. Driver quality restoration for sure. I might add that this one is quite restorable. Wouldn’t alter a thing; just restore and drive…

I had a 62 80, but it was anything but an Aristocrat, more like a Hobo, lol. This would be a nice one to restore, but it’s already been deleted. Another mystery
