1998 Honda Accord Custom Pickup

There are a few times when a custom creation can be almost inexplicable, and this 1998 Honda Accord could be described as one such automobile.  It’s important to note that the owner is none-too-pleased here either, even suggesting he’s considering parting it out, but the whole vehicle can be purchased for $1,200, in case you’re envisioning keeping this oddity together.  Whether you’re eyeing some valuable components or wanting to return this Accord-turned-truck to the road, this one is located in Trenton, New Jersey, and can be checked out here on Facebook Marketplace.  Reader Mitchell G. spotted this one and sent us the tip, which he named the El Accordmino, and we’d like to thank him for sharing such an unusual find!

Interestingly, the owner lists this one as a 2-door, and I guess that’s partly correct, as the rear doors are no longer operational.  It’s now also a two-seater, with the back section of the roof cut away and a pickup-style rear window section added.  What I’m finding the most unusual here is the bed, which consists of all wood, at least from what can be seen, as it’s unknown what lies underneath where the second seat and trunk once resided.  Given the price of lumber nowadays, just these pieces are probably worth a couple of hundred dollars, if parting out is the direction this one is headed.

Judging from the video the seller provides, I think he’s a Honda hater, calling their engines unreliable.  What led to this was a timing belt failure on a highway that left him stranded, but not before the 4-cylinder ran for over 100k miles.  The car’s true mileage is actually listed at 226,000, with the new motor’s cam belt giving out at the 130,000 mark.  Fortunately, aside from a cheap timing belt, just about everything needed to get the engine going again is reportedly included.

The DIY theme continues inside, although the A-pillar gauges are a fun touch, and that’s a pretty rockin’ shifter.  Even though the seller is through messing with this once Accord for now and is open to the idea of this one being parted out, he’s firm on the price as a whole, so I’m curious what sort of value is being assigned to the individual usable components.  Of all the possibilities, is this one better to repair and keep intact, buy the whole thing and just reuse most of the items on another Honda, or inquire about the costs of only the specific items you’re interested in?

There are all sorts of these “UTE Conversions” in SE Asia made most often from Toyota Camrys. Some very well executed. Never seen one stateside. This one looks like a mess.
