Although this one features the desirable 455 under the hood, it wouldn’t be around much longer, making its last appearance in the Cutlass the following year. Despite a large displacement, the big block was down to just 190 horsepower by this time, thanks to increasing emissions regulations and mandatory catalytic converters beginning in ’75. Fortunately, it still had plenty of torque, and the owner says this one runs great. The previous single exhaust has been dualed out, which should also help improve performance. The tough Turbo 400 automatic transmission is said to be brand new, so hopefully this Oldsmobile is in fine mechanical condition.
This is also reported to be a family-owned vehicle, and it looks as though it’s been loved and properly cared for over the decades. The sheet metal looks straight and well-preserved, especially considering that this Cutlass has been driven over 142k miles, but it did receive a respray in the early nineties. However, that was a long time ago, and the finish is still holding up nicely for being more than 30 years old. It still wears Oldsmobile rally wheels, giving the exterior a sportier look, and those branded aftermarket mud flaps were a popular add-on for the period.
By mid-seventies standards, this interior would have been considered loaded, with power for just about everything, including windows, door locks, trunk release, and even an electric driver’s seat. It’s also great that this one has buckets and a console, plus the condition in here still seems strong as well. I remember when these cars were new and everywhere, but that was decades ago, and it’s nice to find one now that’s been pampered enough to stay in such excellent shape. This is really a nice example. That 455 is icing on the cake too. It always seemed that most of these had an Olds 350 in them, which, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that either, but the 455 makes this Cutlass a bit more special. This one really looks loaded too, besides the 455. Console, buckets, power windows, and door locks, it looks like somebody had a heavy hand with the pen the checkboxs on that order sheet back in ’75. The metallic brown and vinyl top looks good too. Overall it looks like it’s in great shape. Hope it goes to a good new home.
