‘Vette Starter Kit! 1957 And 1963 Project Bundle

Recently retired? Got some time on your hands? Got a couple open spots in your storage building? Keep reading, because this pair of long-stored Corvettes outside of Detroit, Michigan may be the perfect solution to fill your days with promise and meaning. A classic 1957 Corvette *and* a 1963 Corvette “Split Window” Coupe will impress your motorhead friends for sure. These cars need a ton of work but the listing here on craigslist.org describes both cars as having their frames “done” some 30 years ago and they’ve been stored ever since. The first $45,000 buys the coupe, $20,000 for the ’57, or net the pair for $60,000. Thanks to reader Roger for spotting this collector starter kit. The C1 comes with the hard top and convertible frame. The Hurst shifter and Torque Thrust wheels suggest this Chevy last saw road time in the ’70s. It’s interesting to think of this Corvette as the contemporary sibling of the iconic full-size ’57 Chevy.

Drivers of the new-for’63 “C2” or second-generation Corvette complained that the vertical split in the rear window inhibited visibility so designers ordered up a single panel after the debut model year. Little did they know the one-year-only feature would make these “Split Window” coupes more desirable, a design that even non gear-heads of a certain age readily identify. A mis-matched front clip surrounds what appears to be the original hood, suggesting a front-end shunt began this car’s demise some 30+ years ago. The seller is not familiar with the cars’ history, but was told that neither car retains its original engine. A “327 C2 engine” comes with the ’63 while no details describe the ’57 engine.

The coupe appears to have been all red. What a beauty it would have been; the rolling symbol of American Space-Age success and optimism. A few thousand hours of labor from now it might recapture that glory. Are you reaching for your checkbook to give $60,000 for this C1 / C2 project pair?

    Lemme get this right. I’m 68. If I spent the next 10 years attempting to getting both these beasts roadworthy, which is doubtful, I suppose I could always get buried in one.

      If you are 68 and married, if you buy these I can pretty much guarantee you will be buried in one and a lot sooner than you would prefer. Take up stamp collecting. Much safer.

    A split window stripped to the gills with a rusty engine and trashed body and a ’67 that looks like someone got a new air sander for Christmas. Got to be kidding with the prices. Seller obviously sucked in too much fiberglass working on these things.

    buy a Prius and save a ton of money. Or for 40,000 you can buy a good running 60 and save a boatload of money.

    A friend bought a 67 years ago that the prior owner attacked the belt line body creases with an orbital sander, rounding off the sharp details. Enough to make your blood run cold. Ugly and expensive to properly to fix.

    This guy watches too much Barrett Jackson. He knows it will cost far more to restore these cars. That 63 is a total heap. Sad. Parts alone will land you in a homeless shelter. Labor, if you cannot do it yourself. Ha.
