That’s the exact amount it took to upgrade a base Firebird to a Sprint, and while many customers chose a V8 for their first-year F-Body, the Sprint’s inline-6 was a decent performer for the period. Upgrading to the Sprint included an overhead cam-equipped inline-6 engine, which was first introduced the previous year in the Pontiac Tempest and LeMans. Measuring in at 230 cubic inches, the six also featured higher compression than the base version, plus a 4-barrel carburetor instead of the 1-barrel found on the other 6-cylinder engines. It weighed less than a V8 and, with its upgraded suspension, the Sprint also handled well. The seller mentions the engine needs bearings and that oil pressure is low when it warms up, so it’s probably time for a rebuild. He also says an extra engine is included, so perhaps that might be of some value here.
It’s not specified if the paint is original, but with the amount of fading and patina, it must have been quite a while ago if this one has ever gotten a respray. The quarters are pointed out as panels that will require work or replacement, but hopefully that’s mostly surface rust visible on the rest of the sheet metal. We don’t get to see any exterior photos from the passenger side, but if it’s comparable to the left, there might not be too much actual body work needed. Maybe just a good smoothing-out from the doors forward will be all the prep required to get this one ready for some fresh paint.

If someone told me that I could only have one car for the rest of my life, it might be this one. Definitely interesting and cool, but not so much that you’d resist driving it all the time. Fun, but still somewhat economical. It would have to have A/C installed, however.
