While this can be discouraging, it only takes one eager prospect with adequate funds to make a sale, and I hope someone who is ready to purchase what seems like a well-preserved fourth-generation F-Body will come knocking on his door soon. Although the seller devotes considerable effort to warding off time-wasters, he also does a good job of describing this Camaro, which we learn was purchased at an estate sale after the original owner passed away. We don’t get to see any photos of how the exterior looked then, but it presents very nicely all around now, with the paint, convertible top, headlights, and rear lenses all reported as new. From an appearance standpoint, I’m not spotting anything outside that doesn’t seem satisfactory enough to please most potential buyers.
This one’s powered by the base V6, with a displacement of 231 cubic inches and a factory horsepower rating of 200. The mileage is listed as 76,000, and recent maintenance includes a tune-up, an oil change, and new tires. When searching for a used car that’s at least a quarter of a century old, it’s reassuring to discover that the seller has a mechanical background and mentions he’s a partner in an automobile repair shop. It’s believed that no under-hood repairs will be required anytime soon, so hopefully, the buyer will be getting a dependable Chevy with lots of good life left.
Little is mentioned regarding the interior, but from what I can tell, it appears to be in decent condition and looks about as I’d expect in a convertible of this age and stated mileage. My vibe is that the seller has had at least a couple of negative experiences already trying to sell this 2000 Chevrolet Camaro, and I’m speculating that if you arrive with a serious attitude, make a good first impression, and have cash in hand, he may be ready to listen to a reasonable offer. How much would you be willing to spend here?

To me these were always the ugliest Camaros. The design was terrible. And trying to make a fastback design into a convertible never worked IMO. Just look at the second generation Plymouth Barracuda. Great fastback, not so much in a hardtop or convertible. But we all have our own opinions.
These are called the Catfish Camaro. 1998-02. I think most would agree the overall styling of the Fourth Gen has not aged particularly well, though at the time they were in keeping with then-in vogue automotive trends. Like the C4 Corvette, this one seems to be more of its time than others.
A V-6 automatic Catfish convertible would be at the bottom tier of a relatively unpopular Camaro generation. If he needs to sell, he’s going to need to come way down from that ask.
As to the interior, I think the purple tint is the result of sun fading. That looks like the factory cloth, but time has tinted it purple!

Indeed it is- thank you! I may be in the minority here, but I actually like the shape of the headlights on the 2000 model.
Styling’s a matter of pure taste and I myself owned a ’99 SS but the styling was just never my favorite aspect of the car, and the collector market hasn’t embraced them, yet anyway. The Third Gen looks better, but the Fourth Gen has better engines though.
The interior looks more sun faded. My daughter has a gray interior on an 2008 Nissan and some of back headrests are turning purple. The sun will do that to the grays.
I agree about the interior color. Big turnoff for me. I had a customer (that the family ended up being good friends) Her husband ordered her as a surprise a new Oldsmobile mini van. It was loaded with all the options including emerald green leather interior. Which clashed terribly with the gun metal metallic paint. Everytime you opened a door you wanted to vomit! They came to see me about ordering a new Yukon. We were just about to complete “checking the boxes” when he announced that he wanted to select the colors. His wife and I without even thinking both shouted NO! He looked a little hurt, but being an intelligent dermatologist instantly understood that color selection was not his forte. From then on it was a running gag about him and colors!

I hadn’t thought about that! Her kids really trashed the insides of her cars. (always had to calculate extra costs involved with detailing the insides of her trade ins)

Hmmm. Considering all the recent work and parts, the cost so far would be way above the asking price. The odd combo of exterior and interior color concerns me. “REPLACED TIRES, FRONT & BACK LIGHTS, DASH, CONVERTIBLE TOP, BATTERY, & HAD IT PAINTED”. Seems like a flood car to me. And the urgency to sell seems suspicious. Definitely need a Carfax on this one.

Have a 98 and love it . T tops not convertible. Don’t like convertible. I got mine in 2020 for 4500 . This gen is not well sought after because of the bug eye lights .he prob get it at that price but I agree purple interior doesn’t look right
I have a 2000 Pontiac Firebird convertible with the V6 and I love, the engine has a lot of pep fora 6 banger, mine has a 104,000 miles on it but is not faded as badly. Great for rides to the beach with my wife.
