One feature of Barn Finds you may not be aware of is our classifieds section, where sellers from all over get an inexpensive opportunity to show off their cars for sale to a very focused audience. We have a lot of Barn Finds success stories, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if this very unusual 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle is the next one! Here is its classifieds listing! The modified VW is located in Shelton, Connecticut and its seller is asking $13,000 for the very distinctive car.
We’re told that the incredible, color-changing finish is updated paint and it’s truly spectacular, with hues ranging from bright orange to iridescent purple and every shade in between! The car has also been modified with a hood very reminiscent of a 1940 Ford. I remembered these from when I was a kid (there was a Rolls Royce version as well) and it turns out they are still being sold (along with a bunch of other Beetle cosmetic modification panels) by BGW in Wisconsin. Nice to know that if you have a crunch, you could at least get a replacement hood! I also like the front bumper with what I think are turn signals added in.
Naturally, the custom body touches continue around back, with changed panels, fancy aluminum finned wheels and vintage-looking tail lights part of the package along with a high-performance exhaust. The seller tells us that it’s been in his garage for the past three years but has to be sold due to a move. What a shame for them, but potentially a bonanza for you!
The engine compartment looks beautifully detailed, and the seller tells us that a new carburetor and fuel lines have been fitted, as well as new brakes all around.
You can see a little bit of the new interior in this shot. It looks like this great-looking car is completely ready to drive and enjoy! Compare the colors visible in this shot with the top picture in the post and you’ll see how cool this paint really is!

When I was a kid I had a cousin that owned one of these. I thought it to be the coolest thing.
Not sure I ever really appreciated all of the different body mod options for the beetles, but the 40 Ford look is still one I think looks half-way decent. the tail light mods are different from what I’ve normally seen on these, and I’m OK with them I’ll reserve my comments on the paint until I see it in person
If I’m not mistaken, isn’t that paint called “harlequin romance”?
To bad you can’t get a back deck lid that looks like a hump back. I think it’s cool but I’m that keen on the paint.
