We’ve featured several seventies Lincoln Mark series autos over the years at Barn Finds, many of which have been low-mileage or nicely preserved original examples. These cars were great offerings back when the personal luxury coupe was still flourishing, and their level of elegance is still appreciated by many enthusiasts wanting to relive the good old days of plush indulgence. However, this 1977 Lincoln Continental Mark V sort of breaks the traditional mold, as it’s undergone a roof chop and seems more at home now in the low rider crowd. There’s still plenty of opulence left as well, especially on the inside, so if you’re ready to dig deeper, this one can be found here on the Gearhead Classics website in Sherman, Texas. This bold Lincoln comes with an asking price of $24,999.

We’d like to thank reader Mitchell G. for sending in the tip here! This is one of those cars that would be fun to learn more about its background, but there’s not much of a story to go along. The good news is that the photos seem to paint a picture that this one’s no amateur chop, as the exterior appears to be in excellent condition with the abridged roof blended to the body nicely. Black is also an unforgiving color for hiding defects, and I’m not spotting much that doesn’t seem like high-quality workmanship. In addition to the top, the suspension has also been lowered, with Eagle alloy wheels completing the outside package.

The audacious appearance continues inside, with a custom leather interior featuring two-tone seats, although the passenger side unit seems to be sagging a bit. However, that’s about the only imperfection I could find, and the rest of the components in here appear to be in fine condition, with the horn being the only device mentioned as non-functional. The windows have been fabricated from plexiglass and are power-assisted, and there’s also a sunroof above.

A 460 had been the standard engine on the previous Mark IV, but when the Mark V came along in ’77, the entry-level powerplant became the 400. Some great news is that this one’s got the optional larger 460, and while the HP rating was only 208, these were known for providing plenty of torque to get these heavy cars moving. Not very many specific under-the-hood details are shared, but the bay appears in good order, and it’s clean as can be. If you enjoy attention and appreciate an aggressive stance to go along with your luxury, this one might be a great catch, although I’m not sure how comfortably my six-foot-tall body would fit inside. What are your thoughts on this chopped and dropped 1977 Lincoln Continental Mark V?

Just when you thought the Mark V couldn’t get any uglier…
My thoughts exactly.
I actually like the Mark V, but not after it’s dropped on its roof.
This car is so ugly…I would need to tie a porkchop around the grille to convince my dog to ride in it!

Not a fan of chopping the roof with me being 6’3”.
I would rather see a retractable rendering if one had to damage a perfectly good car.
I’m 5’8” and I think my head would touch the roof.
I like the dropped look……but not the chopped roof…….
Well, at least they put the 460 back in her.
Looks like they drove it under a low bridge. Agree it would be better to make it a convertible.
GREAT example of a builder who thinks they have a great idea in chopping a roof yet they have NO IDEA how do with style and grace!

That’s it! That’s “The Car” starring James Brolin.
I have the DVD and the 1/8 scale die-cast model.
That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the leadoff pic! Right on! 👍👍
JCH you are scaring me!!!
Looks slightly like a Bentley Mulsanne slightly.
That’s Right! JCH and Angel. THE CAR is one of my favourite movies along with Duel, staring Dennis Weaver. My son just put THE CAR on my DVR. (I’m a poet.) Can’t wait to watch it again. It was fantastic on the big screen.
i think it’s a really cool looking car. He took a stogy old man’s car no one cares about, and made it look like a Batman bad-guy’s car. Good idea and good execution!
The jury’s still out on the concept however the rims have got to go. No center arm rest or console. Love the color outside. White dash? I think not.
WHY?
25k for the destruction of an other wise beautiful luxury car? Must be taking PTSD VA medicine.
Just because you can doesn’t mean that you should. If you’re building for short people they should also be able to reach the pedals.
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮 🧟🧟♀️
The thing about customizing is that it’s an expression of the customizer’s vision and his/her opinion of beauty. Would I pay the asking price if I could afford it? No, because it doesn’t match my aesthetic. But it does for a segment of our population that has done some amazing art with cars as a canvas. So I give it and the creator big props for their vision and execution. Both are impressive.
They chopped it a little too much, and the rear needs to be lowered. The wheels look cheesy, too. Customizing a car to your own personal taste almost always narrows the market considerably.
The interior is more nasty than the hacked top.
This car deserves to be an exhibit at Boston’s Museum of Bad Art.
So you take what was a nice ridding car and lower It so it probably now rides like a Kia then you chop the top so taller guys like me have to twist even harder to get behind the wheel. NO THANKS I will drop my $25k on something that looks cool
Perfect ride to my 50th HS reunion last night.
The Car. Second iteration
This is a 6000lbs work of art. Now it will live forever, somewhere.
Love this car live the drop and the chop!!
One of those listings where you can guess what most of the comments will be.
Notice how here as well as in the original listing there are no photos from above looking down on that top? Bet there is a good reason for that.
If it only had opera windows I’d be on it like a duck on a June bug
When I first looked at it, I thought for sure that this was a Scotty special, both inside and outside.
Something that he came up with after watching an episode of Cannon, falling asleep, and having a nightmare. LOL!
I think maybe they should give Danny DeVito a call and see if he’s in the market for a new ride. As for me I’d much rather have the ’51 Lincoln Cosmopolitan in the ad under this one on Gearhead. That is a very cool car. This one, not so much. 🤔
Sort of an up-scaled take on the Volvo 262C; it was styled by an American.
It could use a couple passes through a shredder. The first time to put it out of its misery and the second time just to make sure.
You people are nutz. That thing is ballin’!
I do loves me some Lincolns.
An idle mind is the Devil’s playground…
Oh no… what an abomination of a beautiful luxury car…
