Colonnade Coupe: 1975 Buick Regal

The Buick Regal began in 1973 as something of a personal luxury car, though it was soon expanded beyond that, and the nameplate continued in North America through 2020. The 1973-77 editions were based on the “Colonnade” A-body, which eliminated true hardtops from previous years. This 1975 edition sports fresh paint and otherwise looks to be in solid condition, though the photos could be better. Located near Cape Coral, Florida, this staple of the Buick lineup is available here on craigslist for $15,500. Thanks for the latest tip, Tony Primo!

Standard in the early Regals was a 231 cubic inch V6, but since the seller says this one has eight cylinders, it must be a 350 (no pics). A TH-350 automatic transmission would be its likely companion. Technically, the Regal was part of the Century family in 1973, but wearing trim that would place it along the lines of the Olds Cutlass Supreme or Chevy Monte Carlo. 1975 models had bigger bumpers to make the Feds happy, but the overall design remained the same for five years. Sales dropped a bit in 1974 and 1975 due to the OPEC shortage thing but bounced back in 1976. The seller’s car is one of 56,600 produced in 1975.

As happens all too often in these kinds of listings, no history of the car here is offered. It has 77,000 miles, which we’re told are original. And the paint has been freshly reapplied after more than 50 years. The emblems were replaced in the process, suggesting that Mother Nature had not been kind to them. The interior looks fine and original with the photos supplied. And some spare parts are included, though it would be nice to know what they are.

The Regal would see six generations sold to the public over a span of 47 years. It was one of Buick’s most popular models for many years in a row. GM’s decision to get out of the sedan business to focus on SUV production was the last nail in the coffin for the Regal and others like it. This ’73 looks like a nice car, and the seller may be asking top dollar. And is willing to accept cryptocurrency instead of hard, cold cash.

These Buicks were good looking cars. Rather typically equipped but nice condition. Seller will have to settle for cash from m.
