Drop-Top Driver: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro

The first generation of the Chevrolet Camaro concluded in 1969 with record production numbers to date. That’s because of a 15-month run on the assembly line, waiting for the all-new 1970s to be ready. This triple black convertible is in good shape for a driver, has a 350 V8 (NOM), and a 3-speed manual transmission (a rarer combination?). Located in Newington, Connecticut, this rust-free pony car is ready for some Sunday afternoon cruises. It’s now available here on eBay for $29,700.

Demand for convertibles may have already been diminishing by 1969, as just seven percent of Camaro production that year came with a soft top. The 350 V8, which debuted in the Camaro in 1967, was gaining in popularity. While the fender crest says this Camaro was built with a 350, we don’t know if the replacement is period-correct. We’re curious as to why the original owner didn’t spring a couple of hundred bucks extra for a 4-speed, as we’re told a 3-speed lives in this machine, presumably original.

This Chevy is well-equipped, with power front disc brakes, power steering, a power top, dual exhaust, and aftermarket Torque Thrust rims with new tires. Everything works as it should, and newer parts include the gas tank, radiator, starter, and a dash pad in the interior. The body and interior are good, and there is no rust, but the paint is old and will only earn you a “7” on the 1 out of 10 scale.

The seller has provided a video of the Chevy running, and it can be found here. Because Connecticut didn’t do titles back in the day, you’ll have to be happy with the paperwork the seller does have to get it titled in your state. If you’re looking for a 1st-gen Camaro convertible and don’t have to have an SS or RS, how about this one?

The video shows the 3 speed shifter ball. Was white, now triple black. Key was ‘on’ when he started it. Sounds o.k. I like the dual pod instruments like my Pantera! Lots of power accessories on the ’59.

This looks good if all checks out as claimed.

This a favorite year for me. I had the Rally Z28 in HS.

This looks like a good fun cruiser.
