Although the Big Three already had a significant head start in the pony car market, the ship was still sailing when AMC entered this once-popular segment, with the Javelin hitting dealer lots in the fall of 1967. Production lasted through two generations, and this 1972 AMC Javelin here on Hemmings features the unusual styling from the later years. The extent of the modifications and the power this one offers are also unusual for a Javelin, and it might be the most elite example to ever cross our desks here at Barn Finds, thanks to reader PRA4SNW. It’s probably also the most expensive one currently out there, with the seller asking a whopping $325,000, so head down to St. Cloud, Florida, to check out this awesome AMC in person and decide whether owning it justifies selling your house!
Although sales of anything that could be considered muscular were taking a nosedive by ’72, the Javelin could still be a respectable performer, especially those equipped with a 401 V8. However, this one’s had the original AMC powerplant swapped for something a bit more stout. Actually, it’s a lot more stout, as it now has a Mopar Hellcat engine under the hood. But the news gets even better: it’s the Redeye, which features an even larger supercharger than the base Hellcat Hemi. The seller says this monster has been tuned to produce 900 horsepower, and it’s paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering all that aggression to a 9-inch Ford rear end with 3.70 gears inside.
For a performer this mighty (and expensive), I’d expect the outside presentation to match the mechanicals, and that’s certainly not going to be a problem. The seller reports that it took over 3,000 hours to complete this rotisserie restoration, and I’m sure much of that time went into smoothing the body to perfection. All of the panels are said to be factory original, covered by Viper Stryker Green paint. One unique and very cool custom touch is the exhaust, which exits through modified sections in the rear quarter panels.
The no-expense-spared theme continues inside, with a custom headliner, door panels, a roll cage with removable bars, and a host of other aftermarket goodies. However, the buckets are original, though reupholstered and looking like new. There’s even air conditioning! I’m finding nothing whatsoever to fault with the vision and execution of this 1972 AMC Javelin, but the price tag will undoubtedly alienate many would-be buyers. Thankfully, a make offer button is included, so perhaps some negotiation is possible. How much would you be willing to spend here?

If my history of selling cars that I’ve restored or modified is any measurement this owner is not going to get even half of what he/she has in it.
I agree that if the seller is also the builder, they will in all likelihood take a bath on it, but holy moley, what a car! While it certainly would not ring my bell at any price, I have to admit that it appears to be an ultra high quality unit.

In 2017, Ring Brothers showcased an 1,100 hp Hellcat powered 72 AMC Javelin at SEMA. It was a beautiful gold beast with far more intimidating body work than this one. Comparatively speaking, this car is a sleeper.
I would spend $325K for the SEMA Javelin, but I wouldn’t spend that much for this one.
Yes the Javelin done by the Ring brothers is really an amazing build with just about every panel was we worked and the skill in creating that build is truly amazing. That car was built for Prestone to highlight their products and the Ring brothers knocked it way out of the park. They have done about a dozen cars that 72 Javelin is my favorite.
Anything done by Ring Bros. is always guaranteed to be the best of the best and always guaranteed to be pricey.
Not to sure about the rear frame rails that were cut thru for the exhaust to exit the thru the 1/4 panels, it has lost a lot of integrity unless they add the strength back somehow

It’s hard to see this car pulling $325,000, it’s just as hard to see it being a $32,500 car. It would be surprising if it didn’t go well into six figures if featured in a prime slot at a large auction.

It’s cool but not 325k cool colors don’t really go together maybe it should have been red ? Why spend all that money on something and only put 55 miles on it . I’d be driving the heck out of it.

Someone did a lot of work on this and it appears it was done right. However I don’t see this car bringing $325k. There are too many very desirable cars in this price range for someone to spend on an AMC. I don’t see this cracking $100k. For the sellers sake I hope I’m wrong.
A big yawn . . . who wants an original AMC Javelin (not many were sold) so who wants a highly modified AMC Javelin? Dollar for dollar you would be better off buying a restored Meyers Manx dunebuggy and thrill at the potential resale value and wide availability of spare parts.
i would have found something a bit better than this car to put this drivetrain in.

It’s a beautiful car. Part of my love for the older cars is the nostalgia. Opening the hood and seeing the original 304, or 360 or the great running 401. Seeing a Gen 3 Hemi or heaven forbid, an LS just doesn’t do anything for me. Oh ya not to mention the price. If I was to spend that kind of money (but I never would) I’d be looking at something Italian.
At 350 K, I’d want something with at least 3 beds and 2 baths.
