They say, sitting is the new smoking, as in it’ll be the thing that kills a lot of us in the computer age as we look at screens all day unless you’re one of the lucky ones who actually has a job that involves moving and being outside. This 1977 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe is listed here on eBay in Thief River Falls, Minnesota and the seller is asking $3,000.
The seller says this formerly luxurious and unique two-door Town Coupe has been sitting for two years but it should run and drive. It doesn’t look promising after looking at the photos, but it’s possible. They show quite a few good photos so kudos to them for taking the time to get it from all angles inside and out. Underside photos would be my biggest wish but that wouldn’t be possible without dragging it out of the weeds and that’ll be up to the next owner.
There’s some surface rust peeking out from a few areas, mainly under trim pieces, and for a Minnesota car that’s been parked outside for at least two winters, that’s a little concerning. The fifth-generation Lincoln Continental was offered for the 1970 model year until the end of the 1979 model year and they came with both four-doors and two-doors. The Town Coupe debuted in 1973, two years before a major redesign and it has to be the most unique body style for this model.
There will be work to do inside, obviously, but I’m surprised at how good it looks in there. There are some cracks on the top of the dash and that’s never fun, and some of the details and edges show what appears to be rust or at least surface rust – which, now that I think about it, is still rust. Hopefully it isn’t serious. The seats look good both front and rear, but has Fluffy been living in the trunk for those two years? It sure looks like a rodent’s nest to me.
The engine looks cleaner than a lot of them that we see here on a daily basis, that’s surprising and nice. It should be Ford’s 460-cu.in. OHV V8 with a four-barrel carburetor and 208 horsepower. The seller hasn’t had it running in a couple of years. Hagerty is at $5,000 for a #4 fair-condition example, would any of you be interested in getting this big two-door Lincoln on the road again for $3,000?
And to think I scrapped one of these a few years ago in similar condition. I didn’t think EVERYTHING was going to be collectible!
In 1991’ I could have bought one like this in a 4-door yellow cream with gold velour interior lot of miles but clean and ran pretty darn good. It was a wholesaler I got to know and he said it’s yours for $400 can’t believe I didn’t get it just for fun heck I was making at least $400 or more every day
If it starts and runs, buff it out and drive it! Those seats lok really nice. This would be a good candidate for a Eco Boost swap.
My Dad had one like it – Black on Black on Black – for about 3 days. Took it back and got his 73 Mk IV back. Said it was so gutless it couldn’t even get out of its own way.
🤔 $3000.00 for this vs. the super clean 1983 Cartier edition BF posted on 4/20 for 5500.00 which by the way was relisted on eBay, makes the latter an easy decision
With a bit of minor work this would be a nice car to drive often,
