Last Model Year: 1976 Dodge Dart Sport

The Dart Sport was the less controversial name for what began in 1971 as the Dodge Demon. After supposedly receiving pressure from the clergy, Dodge changed the name of the Plymouth Duster-derivative to Dart Sport from 1973 to 1976, when the Dart was retired in favor of the new Aspen. The condition of this ’76 Dart Sport points to it having been restored and upgraded at the same time. Perhaps only needing a new home, this Mopar is available in Daytona Beach, Florida, and here on Facebook Marketplace for $25,500. Bravo to “PRA4SNW” for this cool tip!

If you wanted to find the rarest of the Dodge Dart Sports, you’d probably look for a 1976. That’s because only 13,642 were produced that year as Dodge continued to sell the Dart while also introducing the Aspen (the Dart proved to be the better car). We’re told this black-on-red beauty came with a V8 to begin with, which could have been a 318 or 360 cubic inch V8. We’re going with the former, as a 318 is under the hood now, but from 1968. It’s paired with a TorqueFlite automatic transmission, and the entire automobile looks to have been refreshed, though no such reference is made.

We don’t know much about what this Dodge has been up to for the past 50 years. It did originate in California, which helped lead to a rust-free Dart. We also don’t know the collective mileage, but it may have been enough to wear out the original motor. The seller says this version of the 318 has a “mild build”.

The interior looks brand new and is not necessarily using factory materials. The Keystone wheels look great with the red paint and black vinyl roof. The seller has had the car detailed, and the photos show it in the shop where this work took place. It seems like a super nice Mopar, but is a NOM 318 Dart worthy of a $25k asking price?

A good price to begin a little dickering. Nice “Dart” (they’ll always be a Demon to some of us), this could be a good application to any local classic car club. Is it worth the full Monte with its warmed over older but better motor? Yeah, to someone it’ll be a good fit.

Good eye, PRA4SNW and good write up Russ.

Looks like the bumpers were tucked in too! This got some love from someone-hope that continues with the new owner. GLWTS
