Lifted Luxury: 1967 Lincoln Continental 4×4

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

For the 1967 model year, Lincoln Continental production totaled just under 46,000 units. Many of those cars, particularly the 2-door coupes and 4-door convertibles, were well-cared-for, driven lightly, and went on to become valuable collector vehicles. Our feature vehicle, however, has taken a decidedly different path through automotive history. Located in Ukiah, CA, and found here on Facebook Marketplace, the listing only includes two photos and a brief description, but as the saying goes, a photo is worth a thousand words. From the front, the first thing that hits you is those giant tires. Described by the seller as 44″ Ground Hawgs, they certainly add some attitude to what may have been an otherwise sedate vehicle. Supporting those monster tires are 2.5 ton Rockwell axles, each one weighing in at 640lbs. Essentially repurposed military axles, these things can take whatever the driver can dish out. The rest of the suspension is described by the seller as a tubed four-link, set up for airbags. The body of the vehicle looks to be fairly mint, with straight panels, no signs of rust, and all the glass and lights still in place. However, that doesn’t mean that this beast is ready to roll quite yet.

The major issue preventing this unique off-roader from hitting the road is its lack of engine and transmission. On the bright side, this means the new owner has their choice of propulsion unit. Since the vehicle was originally equipped with a 462ci V8, there should be plenty of room to work with in the engine bay. While V8s can provide the perfect soundtrack and are capable of producing enough power for a vehicle like this, a Ford V10 could offer an alternative option. If you don’t mind venturing outside the brand (and you’re into blasphemy), an LS swap would provide reliable modern power. Either way, you’d need to select a stout transmission that can deliver that power where it needs to go. Then, of course, there are the minor details such as the transfer case, driveshafts, steering, electrical, plumbing the fuel lines, etc. While nothing in the ad is mentioned about the interior, it’s safe to assume that it offers a blank canvas for the new owner as well. It could be restored to its original condition to provide comfort on the road, or it could be fitted with a couple of pairs of racing buckets and 4-point harnesses for you and three of your closest off-roading buddies. Whatever choices you make in building this vehicle, in the end, you’ll end up with an entirely different sort of hot-rod Lincoln.

I’ll never get tired of looking at the variety of lifted vehicles you guys spotlight. I love them all.

Get it running and driving then go cruise the strip with the people who make these things into low riders, and just have fun

It is very easy to mock this build and I for one would never want to own it.

But, how many of us would like to take this beast (in running condition) for a little spin around the neighborhood or as Troy suggested above, go cruise the strip?

I just don’t understand why people do this sh*t to beautiful cars. To each his own I guess, but I hate it. MO

You’d have to be careful not to knock someone out cold with those suicide doors given the height.

Bick – anybody out in public who would come that close to this “car” probably NEEDS to get knocked out! Maybe its first excursion should be to the drive-in theater – go just early enough to get first row center, then lock up and keep an eye on things from the snack bar – best seat in the HOUSE!
