The inaugural year for the third-generation Barracuda netted some very fine choices to be found at your Plymouth dealer back in 1970, with a trip to the lot probably making most buyers yearn to buy one of each, and while the muscular ‘Cuda seems to get lots of the attention nowadays the more luxury-oriented Gran Coupe like this one here on eBay is also deserving of a high-level of praise. Unfortunately, this one needs a total restoration, but the seller is also offering a 1972 Barracuda striped like an AAR that might be somewhat less of an undertaking. Both cars are located in Scottsville, Virginia, with the 1970 Gran Coupe having only one bid in place so far at $10,000.
The Gran Coupe was only available in 1970 and ’71, with some additional niceties added such as extra woodgrain trim inside and a very cool overhead console, which allowed drivers to keep an eye on things such as the fuel level and whether or not the doors were properly closed. But we don’t get to view the interior here, as even though the owner has the correct keys he can’t get the doors to open, not even after attempting to lubricate the locks.
The seller informs us the Plymouth has been in his possession for over 18 years, and although the car was driven from Texas to Virginia upon acquisition it’s just been sitting outside ever since. Lots of rust is stated to be present, including the A-pillars, door hinge areas, firewall, floors, trunk pan, and at least parts of the frame rails, but I commend the seller for all his straightforwardness here compared to some other E-Bodies we’ve seen over the years with this kind of corrosion described as typical or even minor. Wonder what’s hiding under that blue tarp?
The seller is unsure if the Barracuda still has its original 318 engine and automatic in place but does say that an Edelbrock carburetor was added by a prior owner, though with all this idle time that’s passed, I’m guessing this one’s going to need some extensive drivetrain attention. Another option thrown out near the end of this listing is the idea of somebody purchasing both cars being offered for sale as a combo along with all the extra parts mentioned for a set price of $36,000, so if you want to check out his ’72 as well it can also be found here on eBay. Is this a reasonable price to pay for the pair?
I always find it hard to believe that someone starts off with a $10k bid on a car that doesn’t even have one picture of the interior. That can’t be legit

OMG!!! It’s another rustpar for big bucks. Sell a kidney and find Big Time body and fender and in a decade or so if you live that long you might see it finished.
These “RUSTPARS” as you state, are not meant for the average person. They can be for a body shop with mechanical abilities. Another one saved!!!!
Calling Mark Worman! I would save the Gran Coupe just so it won’t be turned into ANOTHER Cuda tribute! The Gran Coupes are less frequently seen and are more of a novelty.
The people that sell rust get me that car would cost you a arm and both legs the worst is the door hinges been there and it’s no fun

Last week a rare 1970 HEMI CUDA ragtop sold for 1.9 million in Kissimmee- Mecum. So get out the rust remover and paint sprayer quick! Even as a rust bucket its worth the effort to spin it. Probably a good reason no interior pics. Didn’t want to show the mouse colony.

I’m a Mopar guy / E-body fan so I’m naturally attracted to this…but…could the seller make this car look any less appealing?? Crap piled all over it, and he couldn’t even find someone with a slim-jim to pop the doors open?? Probably just as well, I’d be afraid to see what’s living inside of the car. I don’t believe the Gran Coupes came with a power bulge hood either. I hope someone fixes this up…but not at THAT price.

‘Luxurious’ was never a word that came to mind. ‘Functional’, sure; ‘comfortable’…sort of, but not really. Bench seat b-bodies are the ticket for comfy Mopar muscle.
Well….it’s been a compost heap for the last 18 years I’ll say. Afraid if you gave her a dip…there might not be anything left when she comes out. But to completely get rid of that corrosion hiding in places you can’t see or get to…well send her to the deep end.
