Maryland Barn Finds: 10 Car Collection For Sale!

When we all eventually pass on, those of us with an assortment of project vehicles will inevitably leave it up to our heirs or an estate manager to find new homes for that which we held dear. Of course, if we’re smart, we’d find a way to clear out the non-runners before they became a problem, but that’s not always possible. So, when viewing this collection of modern and vintage vehicles listed here on Facebook Marketplace, it’s hard not to feel a twinge of empathy for the individual that clearly had big plans for some of these non-running projects, such as this 1971 VW Beetle convertible listed for $10,000.

I have no idea if someone died in this instance, but it has all the trappings of an estate sale. The cars aren’t even pulled out of the barn they’re in and the photos seem somewhat hastily taken. The prices for all of the pictured vehicles seem somewhat ambitious for maintenance-hungry examples like this 1997 Jaguar XK8 coupe that clearly hasn’t run for some time. The car cover on top of the dusty paint is doing nothing for the condition of the finish, and the presentation is a shame considering the hardtop is fairly rare and much more desirable than the convertible version of Jaguar’s modern performance coupe. The ask on this one is reasonable at $3,500.

One of the more unusual finds is a modern Lincoln Town Car limousine that has 300,000 miles and looks far better under its cover than the Jaguar and the Beetle. This is a 2001 model and the asking price is $4,000. I suspect there will come a time when this era of the Town Car – the siren song for the Panther platform – will become quite desirable, both as a collector vehicle and for anyone running a livery business that wants a cheap and durable limo to run. These are still enormously classy and I’d love to see a fleet of restored Panther Town Cars running around town.

This is probably one of the more desirable vehicles in the collection – a 1986 Panther Kallista convertible. These were meant to emulate a variety of classic British sports cars, and it’s estimated that fewer than 200 made it to the U.S. Like most replicas, they weren’t nearly as special as an actual Morgan or Allard, but the low production volume and styling that seemed better than most attempts at re-creating the original makes it a compelling project. The seller is asking $7,500 for the Kallista; which one of these forgotten project cars gets your vote as being the one worth taking home?

“Panther Kallista” is Korean for “Run away, run away”. My Dad bought one, thinking about taking on a franchise. I think he was able to drive it twice without breaking down. The doors would fly open, the battery was always dead, and I believe the convertible top channeled water better than repelling it. We donated to a charity for a raffle, and the winner tried to sell it back to us.

    There’s quite a mix there!

I hope I don’t leave behind 10 vehicles for my relatives to sort out after I pass (if that is what happened here). 3 or 4 would be fine though. :)

PS The ’71 Beetle should have a 4-speed transmission, not a 5, unless someone really got creative. It’s probably a typo.
