No Reserve Gems! Hall Living Estate Auction

Packard and Pontiac, luxury and muscle, trucks, a tractor, and even a Steinway grand piano are all selling with no reserve as the assets of the Phil Hall Collection and the Phil and Roxanne Hall living estate go to the highest bidder. Online bids are open now at KeenanAuction and the event wraps up Monday, 16 August 2021 at the Hall’s residence in Scarborough, Maine. Check out all the lots at Proxibid where hundreds of pictures accompany the descriptions. Phil Hall bought and sold many cars during his lifetime, and this 2010 Portland PressHerald article relates Phil’s fascination and good fortune with all things automotive. Thanks to reader Phil S. for suggesting this auction of New England classics. This stately 1937 Packard Twelve 1508 Touring Limousine represented elegant excess, a mega-dose of powerful refinement that only the richest of the rich could enjoy during the Great Depression.

Wow! This makes me want to grab some Hydrox Grey Poupon, fill that trunk with Yuengling Dom Pérignon, and cross America on the Lincoln Highway. Nothing makes an entrance like a Packard, and this grand 144″ wheelbase 1508 looks perfect and not “stretched” in any way. Why settle for eight cylinders when you can have twelve? Bidding has eclipsed $30,000, but expect a much larger number before all is said and done.

From its bumpers weighing more than some modern economy cars to it’s immaculate interior and engine compartment, this 1956 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe De Ville hardtop is dressed out to impress.

Just before fins exploded, the ’56 Cadillac wore these reserved finlets and other space rocket details at the rear. Bidding on this masterpiece has risen above $12,000, and it will take more than that to come away with this two-toned luxury coupe.

Marking the polar opposite of the ’37 Packard limo, this 1967 Pontiac LeMans hardtop sport coupe wears a vibrant yellow paint job and painted flames on (where else?) the bottom of its gas tank. With an interior and engine compartment looking as put-together as Jon Bon Jovi’s hair on a windy beach, this muscle-ish LeMans is guaranteed to draw a crowd at your local high school. Bidding so far sits at a teen-friendly $3100.

With its convertible top, twin nacelles, red leather and wheels, and a rumble seat for friends, this 1937 La Salle Series 37-50 Convertible Coupe promises luxurious cruising on your favorite byway. Note the jewelry-like chevrons in the creased fenders, the perfect hiding place for turn signals!

Tractors like this 1940 Ford 9N will never be worth less than a good price today, and they can give you a lifetime of service as a working tractor while still looking great if restored. With a simple four-cylinder gas engine, hydraulics, available parts, and attachments, this perfectly sized workhorse has the torque and weight to cripple your disposable box-store tractor.

If you buy a used Jeep, take my advice and buy one with a hard top. You won’t pay much more than the same Jeep with a soft-top. These tops can bring $1600 or more used, and they don’t come up every day. No bids on this one yet so maybe someone will get a deal. Classic Ford fans will want to check out the quartet of early Fords spanning from 1915 to 1930 and a 1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley Coupe with see-through hardtop. May this living estate bring a good reward to the Hall family and a new chapter in the lives of these machines. Which is your favorite?

A lifetime of great stuff. Sorry he has passed, but looks like he had a good time while here. Wish I had the money and room for the Steinway. Have always wanted one, but I am going to my grave sans that. Oh well, I have a lot of other great things going for me that has made my life wonderful. We may not all have the resources this man had, but that does not mean that our lives are not as great. A wise man finds comfort in understanding what is truly wonderful in the things he does have.
