Some classics live hard lives, while others are obviously cherished possessions. This 1999 Pontiac Firebird Formula falls into the second category. This one-owner survivor presents superbly. Its engine bay houses the legendary LS1 V8, giving it performance to match its looks. With only 52,000 miles on the clock, it should offer its new owner decades of reliable classic motoring pleasure. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Rocco B. for spotting the Firebird listed here on Craigslist in Henderson, Nevada, for $15,200 OBO.

Pontiac released the Fourth Generation Firebird range for the 1993 model year. Although nobody knew it at the time, this generation would be the last for the iconic badge as the company rationalized its product range. The seller ordered this Firebird Formula in 1999, choosing Bright Red from that year’s color palette of nine paint shades. Its presentation is first-rate, suggesting it has never been abused and has been protected from harsh UV rays. The paint shines richly, and if there are imperfections, they are too minor to show in the listing images. There are no bumps and bruises, and life in a dry climate has protected it from rust. Add crystal-clear glass and spotless 16″ wheels to the equation, and this Firebird makes an excellent first impression.

This Firebird is more than a pretty face. Its engine bay features the 5.7-liter LS1 V8, delivering a factory-quoted 305hp and 335 ft/lbs of torque. The four-speed THM 4L60E automatic transmission feeds the power to the Zexel/Torsen II slip-reduction rear end. Add power steering and four-wheel anti-lock power disc brakes, and this Pontiac should provide a safe, relaxed, effortless driving experience. Although the owner doesn’t mention documentary evidence, the car’s overall condition makes their claim of a genuine 52,000 miles on the clock seem plausible. They don’t indicate how well the Firebird runs or drives, but I see nothing suggesting the news would be anything but positive.

This Firebird’s interior is a sea of Gray cloth, vinyl, and plastic. However, Pontiac used this shade without it looking drab or oppressive. Its condition is also consistent with the mileage claim. Close scrutiny shows a few wrinkles on the driver’s seat, but the remaining upholstered surfaces are spotless. I doubt the back seat has ever seen use, because it looks pristine. It probably wouldn’t pass as a showroom example, but the interior is extremely impressive for a twenty-seven-year-old survivor. It is also nicely equipped, featuring dual airbags, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, a six-way power driver’s seat, power mirrors, a power hatch release, cruise control, a tilt wheel, and an AM/FM radio/CD player.

There is something almost irresistible about buying classics like this 1999 Pontiac Firebird Formula. It is a one-owner survivor, and its condition suggests it has been treated respectfully and sheltered from abuse for its twenty-seven years. It appears to need nothing and would be ideal for someone seeking a “plug-and-play” option. If you’ve ever considered parking a Fourth Generation Firebird in your garage, could this immaculate Formula be a contender?

If the miles on this Firebird are legit, and for the great condition, I believe it’s definitely worth the $15,200 asking price.
