Owned For 50 Years! 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Many enthusiasts consider long-term ownership a desirable attribute when considering a classic purchase. This 1964 Corvette Convertible could tick the boxes if you share that sentiment. It has spent half a century as part of the same family and presents acceptably for a survivor-grade vehicle. All good things must end with this ‘Vette set to find a new home. The seller has listed it here on eBay in Dallas, Texas. Bidding has raced beyond the reserve to sit at $31,000.

The original owner ordered this Corvette in Ermine White, and there is no mention of prior restoration work in the listing. The paint carries a selection of scratches and chips, with some quite significant. The seller indicates it requires total restoration, but whipping the panels and paint into shape should not be difficult with the fiberglass looking free from substantial defects. The factory hardtop is in good order, but the listing doesn’t mention a soft-top. The Corvette appears to have spent its life in Texas, and that, combined with the fact it has been garage-kept, should mean there are no structural rust issues. The bumpers and some trim pieces will benefit from a trip to the platers, but the glass looks acceptable. The car rolls on aluminum knock-off wheels, but it is difficult to determine if it is 1-of-806 to emerge from the factory so equipped.

The Corvette’s interior looks acceptable for a driver-grade vehicle but isn’t perfect. The passenger-side seatcover has defects that will probably prompt the winning bidder to source replacements. The factory shifter has made way for a Hurst unit, but high-quality reproductions are readily available if the original is unavailable. The carpet is worn under the driver’s feet, meaning a new set will find its way onto the shopping list. There are a few other visible defects, and the new owner may elect to perform a complete retrim as part of a high-end restoration. However, they will do so working from sound foundations.

We receive no engine photos in the seller’s listing, and there is an air of mystery with this classic. They confirm it features a 327ci V8 and a four-speed manual transmission. The water becomes muddy from there. The power output of the small-block is stated as 340hp, but such an engine was not available in 1964. It was the previous year, which may indicate an engine change. It is reassuring that the seller holds service records and receipts dating back to 1975. That should make tracing its history easier. They say it runs, but the indications are that it isn’t roadworthy. With parts for these classics readily available, returning it to that state could be an achievable short-term goal.

The lack of some specific information on the health of this 1964 Corvette Convertible hasn’t stifled interest. These are desirable classics in their own right, and the ownership history will endear it with some people. It has received nineteen bids, although I suspect the figure might have been considerably higher if the seller had provided additional details and photos.     340 Hp? sure. Motor same as fuelie except has Holly carb instead of FI. IE, aluminum intake, 202 double bump heads, pop up pistons, solid lifters, 2.5″ exhaust system, finned valve covers. About as fast as the “whistler”. without the headaches.

    Requires premium fuel, but would be a fun car.

    I think for me and at my age if I were to purchase a Corvette this would be the perfect choice, You could drive it, work on it and enjoy it.What’s better than that.

    the 365 was FI.

    the 340 became the 350 L79 in 1965 with addition of the 3863151 cam and hydraulic lifters.

    What Claudio said. As I approach 70, I drive my 1973 Corvette every chance the skies aren’t scheduled to open up. I love OEM, Bloomington Gold stuff, but life is too short to worry about a bug splatter or stone chip. It is sad that most old cars never get driven and just sit. I live 200 miles from Carlisle. Already have my Fun Field pass for Corvettes at Carlisle. Just have to find that tiny radiator leak, repack the front wheel bearings, go over the car and we are leaving at 5 a.m.

      As a canadian that lives in montreal, carlisle is a far drive but i have been many times and it is a car lover’s paradise , enjoy your time and remember , you only live once =YOLO
