Project Potential At Everett’s: Mustang Cobra II

The team at Everett’s Auto Parts in Brockton, Mass. has done the hobbyist world a major favor and begun setting aside potential projects vehicles or solid parts cars. More than that, they are cordoned off from the masses of parts pullers that would otherwise go hog wild on cars like this Mustang Cobra II. You can find contact info for the yard here at Everett’s Auto Parts‘ website, but you’ll have to visit in person or call for more info on this and other vehicles in the project car lanes. 

We have previously documented some of the classics Everetts’ has set aside here and here, and some of these vehicles are likely still available for sale. Keep in mind, they are not selling parts off of them: these are reasonably priced whole cars that you can either buy for a parts source or to restore back to road-use. This Mustang Cobra II appears reasonably sound, and Everett’s has confirmed it runs.

Check out those seats – fancy! Or perhaps they reflect a period of once-proud ownership by a previous owner who went so far as to get custom upholstery that matched the exterior color of his ride. Though somewhat garish, at least the interior isn’t torn up. This Cobra doesn’t feel like a project car; rather, it’s more of a tired daily driver or a once-proud weekend ride that lost a step or two when an owner got too old to take proper care of it.

The engine bay isn’t torn up though some cosmetic refreshment could be in order. The plug wires look fairly recent, but the air cleaner could stand being replaced. Everett’s is asking $2,500 for the complete car, which is a fair ask (in my opinion) if rust isn’t hiding beneath that half-decent paint job. If you’re in the South Coast area of Massachusetts, or even Rhode Island or Boston, Everett’s is worth the drive to visit the classic car bullpen.

    At least the rear hatch hasn’t rusted to the point where the spoiler falls off. Happened to a co-worker as he left one day.

    For $2500 and it still runs, doesn’t sound like a bad deal for a young kid to get in to the hobby. These cars are starting to get some respect in the Mustang hobby.

        Good on you for helping your Son gain appreciation for what he has!! Instead of “what kind of car you want Son, ok, here are the keys”! If they have some sweat equity in it, they will appreciate it! If not, not! Awesome, awesome, awesome job on the build of this “forgotten car”!!!! Hopefully you have just added a much needed fresh young voice into this “Hobby”!!!!!

      JW Not sure what Mustang hobby you are talking about. These were a slug when new. 302 2V producing something like 120 hp.

      Do the kid a favor. Even better would be a turn the key and it runs EFI 1987-1993 Fox Body Mustang 5.0. The best part is stock=instant respect. They are out there for $2500 and less. But NOT for long. These are already rising at a rapid pace.

      With the restoration costs on the Mustang II above you could buy a hell of a nice newer driver. like an 06/ 08 V6 Mustang and have money left over.

      Have to look, lots of choices but so much better reward then to throw your money at this old disco ball on wheels it is rough and parts are relatively hard to get. Some things are better left alone.

        Unless the kid WANTS a MII. I tried to talk my son into a fox or SN95 or S197. This is exactly what he wanted. My son gets more compliments on this car than he would in a SN95 or early S197. In face, it is difficult for him to put fuel in it without having a conversation. It is his daily driver and it does have a 302EFI in it.

        These cars are more popular than you think.

    Mandatory Dunkin Donuts bag on the seat, haha. I’m in Braintree, great to know this place exists near by. Saw an 89 LX 5.0 in CT for $4500, seems the better deal.

    Brings back some memories. I bought the same car brand new in 1976. stock, 0-60 was about 10 seconds! Still, drove it to the Canadian Rockies and back.
    Handled well for its time.

    If I were in the market for a project, I’d be all over this. I always did like these ( fastbacks ), and there are tons of go fast parts available for the small block Fords especially in my area where we don’t need to worry about emissions testing. Love those seats!

    I no a lot of people do not like the 74 to 78 some of the reason is because there hole life they have been told there junk ,,it’s easy to make a 302 a power horse ,I can not stand the fox body ,there the only mustangs that don’t look like a mustang ,

    I always liked the blue stripes in white body version, but I remember these black and golds too. Wider rear tires and traction bars always made these (and most “souped-up” cars) seem much tougher.

    In the neighborhood I used to live in (newer, expensive houses), almost every guy had a fun car or a Harley. I had my Corvette, and a there were other muscle cars, Porsches, etc. One guy had a mint MII King Cobra, and that is the one that always caught my eye and was hoping to catch the guy out with it so I could talk to him about it. That never happened and one day, it was gone.

    Rob, Nice car your son has. I didn’t see your post when I made my comment. I am sure when you started on your car it was nicer condition wise then the featured car and with the transplanted EFI it won’t get outrun by a commuter car now

    It is true a nice example or un modified original car will spark interest. With the Mustang II they have all but fallen off the planet like many 1970’s cars. Seeing one as nice will sure to gain interest.

    For the last several years have had a chance to buy an original 45K mile King Cobra a guy bought new and had it in the garage up until about ten years ago and started it up and parked it in his back yard. It looks like the featured car now. Sad. It is cheap enough tho

    Indecently last week while getting gas I made a comment about the guy next to me in a 1984 Trans AM as it was ridiculously clean. It was a shiny original paint 25K mile car. Would I want that? No.Not for me. Gotta say that Saleen is the shit, I would have NO problem with that
