In 1963, Ford rolled out a 427 cubic inch V8 to compete with Chevrolet’s 409, Chrysler’s 413, and Pontiac’s 421 on the street (and on the track). Two versions of the 427 existed, the 425 hp R-Code and the 410 hp Q-Code, the difference being carburetion. Just 411 of both were installed in 1963 Galaxie 500 convertibles – and the seller’s car purports to be one. Located in a garage in West Harrison, Indiana, this rare Ford is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $63,000 (was $66,000). Pnuts gets the credit for this cool tip!
The 427 came along with the so-called 1963 ½ Fords, which added a fastback body style to the 2-door hardtop (keeping the notchback as well until 1964). The R-Code version came with dual quad carburetors, which squeaked out 15 more horses than the Q-Code single quad. The 427 became less important on the street when mid-size industry cars from 1964-forward would take over the muscle car mantra initiated by the full-size products.
We’re told practically nothing about this drop top. The seller says it’s “like new” and has a 4-speed manual transmission. The ride sports aftermarket wheels, and the burgundy beast looks like it has been restored — information you would think the seller would find helpful to share. It looks quite good from the few photos provided. Perhaps it’s either an estate sale and the seller doesn’t know the vehicle’s heritage, or a wife has decided her husband needs to sell a car he doesn’t want to part with.
Not the best ad, but the car is rare and desirable enough serious potential buyers will contact the seller rather than dismiss them out of hand.
If a car is unique, desirable or underpriced potential buyers will call.
The more generic the car or if it’s priced at or above the market, a bad ad is a disincentive for potential buyers to call.

I agree with Steve that a car like this doesn’t need much of an ad because anyone that is interested in in something as cool and rare as this knows exactly what to ask the seller.
I am a GM, (Chevrolet in particular) sort of a fella, some cars from other manufacturers in the 60s are just too bitchin’ to overlook. like Max wedge Mopars, 421 Pontiacs, and R code Fords. My sister had a boyfriend that had a R code 63 1/2 Galaxie, and the first time he took me for a ride in it, it absolutely blew my 14 year old mind.
This thing just drips cool.

why not show the vin to prove “R” code claim. need more info and pics for that kind of money.
As was noted earlier, the person that is going to seriously consider this car will do their own due diligence, so I don’t think including that information in the ad would make that muçh difference.
Truly a bada** ride but I never understood putting a motor like that in a convertible. I think the stated 425HP was an inside joke at Ford just like the same HP rating for other car line’s massive HP motors. I assume stating true HP would have been against corporate rules.
I remember one of these motors in a 63 Ford being sold to a local bootlegger and a sheriff attempting to stop him. Better luck next time. Sheriff stopped, got out and measured 165 feet of rubber left by a full size Ford with a load of beer as “freight”. They could sure haul a load.

If you never understood somebody putting a motor like that in a convertible, you ought to look up Ray Allen and his ’70 Chevelle SS 454 convertible. He absolutely dominated the SS/EA super stock class in 1970.
