Nine times between 1968 and 1984, Oldsmobile partnered with Hurst Performance for a special edition muscle car. In 1974, it was the Cutlass S that had the honors and 1,800 were produced. 380 copies had a 455 cubic inch V8 (W-30) while the remainder came with a 350 Rocket V8 (W-25). The seller’s car is one of the latter, and it looks to be in grand shape with a freshly rebuilt motor. Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, this well-kept (not your father’s) Oldsmobile is available here on craigslist for $29,800.

All of the Hurst/Olds built in 1974 were dressed up like they were doing Indianapolis 500 pace car duty, but fewer than 100 were chosen. And those were used for secondary duty as the Indy folks needed convertibles, so the Delta 88 was dropped in for the track parades. The Indy graphics package was an optional installation, and I bet they were mostly adorned that way. While the 455s were rated at 230 hp, the 350 carried 180 horses, which probably got the job done. Paint choices were white or black, and the gold Hurst trim was applied in ample amounts.

No mention is made of whether this Hurst/Olds got to Indy, so we’re guessing not. It has logged 77,600 miles, with the last 500 using a rebuilt 350. This beauty is loaded, including factory air conditioning and swivel bucket seats. A Turbo-Hydramatic transmission was the only choice for these fancy cars. It’s said to be a nice driver with good paint and upholstery (original or redone?).

We don’t know the ownership history of this Olds, but it seems to have been loved by everyone associated with it. The seller is pretty firm on the price and says that delivery is available, but what does that mean, and at what additional cost? The car looks nice enough to drive home if you live somewhere on the Left Coast. Bravo to Barn Finder Barney for another great tip!
