Yard Find: 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible

From 1964 to the end of the 20th Century, the Cutlass was Oldsmobile’s popular mid-size car. All of GM’s intermediates got a rework in 1968 and for five years they were at the top of their game. In 1969, Olds produced 13,498 Cutlass convertibles with a V8 engine (and 236 more with an inline-6). So, finding one of them today in any condition probably isn’t the easiest job. As a yard find, we’re told this one runs, but it looks like it hasn’t moved in a while given its surroundings. Located in Kansas City (Kansas or Missouri?), this drop-top project is available here on craigslist for $4,000, Bravo, Gunter Kramer, for another great tip!

With the title missing on this auto, the seller mistakes it for a 1968 model. But the taillights and front-end treatment say it’s from the following year. The photos show it being captive and it has a canvas cover that may or may not be used regularly. We don’t know if there’s any significant body damage, and the color of the paint under the grime is probably green. The top may have weathered time and the elements, but limited interior photos don’t tell us if exposure has been an issue.

The odometer quit working at 65,000 miles and we’re told there’s an eight-cylinder under the hood. It’s probably a 350 cubic inch “Rocket V8” if original and the seller says it runs and sounds really good (aftermarket exhaust?). It’s hard to tell how much of a restoration opportunity this is, or would it better serve as a donor car since only a Bill of Sale will be provided. But it is a drop-top and those don’t turn up every day.

Kansas City, Kansa according to the Craigslist map.

UPS: Seller said it runs and”sounds good”..
    maybe a good price.

DOWNS: Outside going to need a lot of attention.
Inside going to need a lot of attention.
Little to no attention given by Most Left Coast DMV’s to the buyer
without a title on an out-of-state car.

Be careful of rot. If solid, that’s a good deal for someone to fix up or restore, hopefully to original, and NOT a 442 clone.
