The popular Dodge Dart was redesigned in 1967, and that platform would carry the car through its retirement in 1976. Styling was updated in 1970 to more closely mirror other Dodge products. The GT was no longer a series, but a trim option, and the fender tag on the seller’s 1970 Dart Swinger confirms that it was ordered. In most photos, this Mopar presents well, but there are some issues with the paint. Located in Hodgenville, Kentucky, this Dart is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $9,000.
This GT was ordered with style in mind, complete with bucket seats, a console, and body stripes. But it was powered by a 318 cubic inch V8 with an A904 automatic transmission. So, it was peppy for its size and weight, but not a rubber burner. The 383 and 440 engines once offered on the GTS were no longer in the mix for Dodge’s compact. But you could still opt for a 340 small block.
The seller’s GT is finished in Light Green Metallic paint, which appears nice enough to have been a redo in some of the photos. In others, the paint is flaking away, and the car’s former vinyl top has been removed and the roof repainted to match the rest of the automobile. This vehicle once had factory air conditioning, but that hardware has been stowed away for the buyer to reinstall. The Dodge’s broadcast sheet has been retained, so you can verify its credentials.
Per the seller, this Dart has logged 89,000 miles in 56 years. While the paint may be questionable, the interior looks pretty solid, and the mix of colors used is quite tasteful. We’re told the machine comes with extra parts, but we don’t know what they are or if they will be needed anytime soon. This Mopar looks like it could easily have a solid future with some work.
