4-Door Drop-Top! 1958 Plymouth Belvedere

The 1958 model year was perhaps the pinnacle of Chrysler’s “Forward Look” movement. The cars maintained their futuristic look, which started in 1957, but now with four headlights. The Belvedere was Plymouth’s biggest seller, a notch behind the Fury, which was picking up steam. The seller’s ’58 Belvedere resembles what the movie car Christine may have looked like if she were a convertible and had four doors. This Mopar, once celebrity-owned, is likely a custom one-off whose evolution is not revealed. Located in Orange, California, this driver-quality one-off is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $22,995.

In 1958, Plymouth did build a Belvedere convertible, but only with two doors. And they also built Belvedere 4-door hardtops and sedans. We assume this car began as one of the latter that a chop shop converted into the vehicle you see here today. Adding the extra doors to an existing convertible would have probably been the harder way to go. The seller says this cruiser was once owned by the infamous madam, Heidi Fleiss (which may or may not make a good selling point).

How and when this Plymouth became a 4-door ragtop isn’t known – or the seller isn’t telling. And the photos chosen don’t do the best job of calling out its most notable features, the extra doors. The top, which is manually operated, was replaced a few years ago, while the car now sports new tires, starter, battery, and a rebuilt push-button automatic transmission. Some degree of marketing-speak is used in the car’s description.

We’re told the car is a daily driver in that the seller takes it to work a few times a week to keep everything flowing. No immediate needs are revealed about the interesting vehicle, so turnkey is the word that comes to mind. And you will attract attention at Cars & Coffee if you add this Belvedere to your stable. A special attaboy goes to T.J. for this tip!

That’s a beautiful convertible that looks like it was professionally modified from a sedan. If it was Heidi’s actual car then it would have seen some real action !!

Dang, I was going to applaud your Photoshop skill to make that four-door convertible, Russ, but it’s real! Very cool.
